this an implementation detail of [linebreak] ;-) (and linebreak shouldn't be part of Gem) i think one single symbol is ok (because of the additional spaces that would be introduced by having a list of symbols)
the changes that went in, is that the text-objects now can handle multi-lined text.

it just converts the incoming list into a string and then breaks this string at each occuring '\n'; it is pretty much your code, but it doesn't know anything about "maxchar".
