Hello,
With the following configuration : Ubuntu 16.04 Pd-0.47.0 GEM: ver: 0.93.git 60998f6
It's been a while since the topic of choosing a camera was not discussed on the list.
Until today, for use in a theatre, i used the PS3 Eye camera and long USB extensions (17 meters between computer and camera) and it was a cheap and reliable solution.
But now, i need a faster camera with a higher resolution to get more precision in the move detection. The camera will be at the zenith above the stage.
I stayed on two possibilities :
- using USB3 industrial camera like this one : https://www.ximea.com/usb3-vision-camera
- using an analog camera and a PCI (or USB) card to convert analog to digital signal like this one : https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity (never tested but recommended by Chris)
... and i stayed on problems with these both possibilities :
- USB3 industrial camera : - expensive - not easy to have a long distance between camera and computer (maybe it is possible to convert USB3 cable <-> cat 7 ?)
- analog camera and PCI or USB card - low resolution - low framerate
Maybe things have changed ? Can you tell me if there is new solutions in digital/analog capture with a camera with a 'high' frame rate (120 fps minimum) and a 'high' resolution (1920x1080 pixel minimum) working with Gem or via v4l2loopback/GStreamer/Gem ? Thanx a lot ! ++
Jack
