i was wondering if there is any hardware requirements (gfx hardware) for getting gem running under linux with software openglrendering. (glxgears works just fine)
if you seriously want to use gem then u need hardware accelleration. in linux this is done via DRI modules. u have to have a look at dri.sourceforge.net if your card is supported. if u have a nvidia card then u should install the nvidia driver from nvidia website as the linux natice drivers do not support DRI.
you can test if u have hardware acceleration with: glxinfo it should give u something like: direct rendering: yes and a lot od supported opengl extensions
after hiting the gemhead button on any demopatch a blackbox with nothing inside appears. got some "cant create double bufferd...." error and thats it.
thats because u have no hardware rendering
or... may someone plaese tell me that its not possible right now to compile and run gem under linux if this is the truth.
no, it is defenitely possible, but i can remember that is was a big pain too for me at the begining
