at least on ubuntu (most likely on all modern linux distros) there is no need to be root for doing realtime stuff anymore.

i didn't expect that, but it seems, that being real root makes the situation worse. i assume, that pd is blocking out some other processes, that pd has to wait for afterwards. it's good to know, that being root can raise such issues.
