Thanks for working through that, very helpful. I know how long it can take, and how unfun it is. Ping me when Burkhard makes a gmerlin-avdec release, and I'll update the Fink packages.
We can also do one from SVN if you think its urgent.

got it. No patch necessary. aac_frame was the file being patched and is now changed at the source. at least the recent gmerlin svn (today).... so i just commented out your patch lines in your .info file and all works!!!
Even alea.mpg!!! no crashing! Yay!!!
although this still does not solve the issue of the crash when gmerlin is compiled without libmpeg2 no?
NOTE: A good nights sleep is a requirement for troubleshooting.

That's strange, the patch is failing to apply. Did you download a different version of gmerlin-avdec and put it into the /sw/src/gmerlin-avdecoder-1.1.0.tar.gz?

Just in time for me to give you the gmerlin update ;) Attached is the updated gmerlin-avdecoder1.info package to build against libmpeg2, which is already included in Fink as mpeg2dec.

thanks for reporting in the tracker.
is it possible for you to get back to the state where the crash happened? so we can make work with gmerlin even if it was compiled without libmpeg2 support...
