Unfortunately I have very little experience with low-level programming/coding. Do you think it's a simple enough task to warrant a learn-as-I-go approach with Visual Studio?

Its probably just a matter of compiling it for 64-bit using Microsoft Visual Studio. Do you have that? If so, give it a shot.
