Hey all,
I've had trouble loading some TIFs generated in pd/Gem in PIL (python
imaging). I asked on the list and it seems PIL expects some particular
TIF tags being set in order to recognize the image.
I think it can only be an improvement to add these tags so that tifs
generated in pd/Gem can be loaded by as many applications as possible.
The attachment contains the specific tags.
Thanks,

hi IOhannes!
in 1st place, THANKS for implementing this feature ;) you realy make me happy.
i installed your experimental win build and it works great, when i add the gem directory to file/paths. only when i do so, pd crashes when i load a .mov using pix_film or pix_movie. when i remove the Gem path from file/paths again, pix_film and pix_movie work fine again, - but no more uv coordinates...is it a bug? or am i doing something wrong?
im using pd extended 0.40.3 on winXP
thanks for doing all this

Summary: glsl_geometry
Initial Comment:
it would be great to add a glsl_geometry object to load geometry shader.
It should be compatible with already existing glsl_vertex and glsl_fragment object...

We are in the midst of our Pd/Gem module for our class and Gem is performing
nicely on the students' varied OSes and machines. Our only real problem we
have run into is that pix_record seems to be giving us some troubles on the
WinXP and Vista machines.
The results are not completely consistent amongst the machines but in
general we especially have troubles trying to record especially from
webcams. When trying to record from webcams we see messages in the Pd
console like:
recordQT: movie dimensions changed prev 320x61486 now 320x240 stopping
recording
error: recordQT : EndMediaEdits failed with error -2008
Some machines cannot record from the webcam but can record from other
sources, such as pix_sig2pix. Some even fail with pix_sig2pix but do succeed
in recording from pix_film as is done in the pix_record example patch
included with Gem.
Using the attached patch, a typical failure of pix_sig2pix looks like:
recordQT: movie dimensions changed prev 0x0 now 640x480 stopping recording
error: recordQT : EndMediaEdits failed with error -2008
This is with GEM ver 0.91-cvs compiled Apr 12, 2008, part of the latest
Pd-extended 0-40.3 release for Windows. All the tested machines have the
latest version of Quicktime (v7.6) installed.
Thanks.

Hey all,
I'm writing a gphoto2 interface object for PD.
For some reason I get segfaults when running functions in my external,
the backtrace shows these are related to libimageMagick.
If I don't load Gem my code works as expected.
I've attached the code.
The openCam() causes the problem.
Does anyone see anything in there that would conflict with imageMagick?
Thanks,
B. Bogart
(sorry if double post)
Hi
here are my first steps in my attempt to writing a flext lib using
openCV computervision library.
Instead of writing new pix_objects or pdp_objects, the idea is to use an
internal array of pointers pointing to opencv data structures and to
pass indexes from one object to another.
This way, it is possible to work on images but also on other data
structures (like IplImage, cvSeg, cvPoint, etc... )
In this very first attempt, i wrote some externals in a flext lib :
smooth-median, smooth-gaussian , dilate, erode, canny (contour
detection), displaying window
and a bridge from / to GEM pixes.
You can have a look on source code and build for windows xp here
<http://jy.gratius.free.fr/?q=node/167>.
I don't intend to write a exhaustive library, only objects I need for my
artistic purposes.
But if you want to feedback / contribute, you are welcome...
best,
Jean-Yves
what's the difference between pix_filmQT and pix_filmDarwin on OSX?
it seems like pix_filmQT cannot open movie-files (here), wherease
pix_filmDarwin works just fine.
can therefore pix_filmQT be removed entirely?
(on w32, pix_film+filmQT is used successfully anyhow; i think pix_filmQT
originally came from the w32 implementation)

Hey all,
I'm finally starting to get up my memory use.
My patch now crashes when the machine gets up to 3GB (out of 4GB).
I suppose this is due to the fact that this is a 32bit lenny machine,
not 64bit.
I'm running a custom kernel with the following related flags:
# CONFIG_NOHIGHMEM is not set
# CONFIG_HIGHMEM4G is not set
CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G=y
CONFIG_HIGHMEM=y
free reports 4GB available (4148912 total).
This is the first time I've gotten to the 3GB barrier.
Is the only way to get access to all 4GB by installing a 64bit system?
(Is it possible to "upgrade" from 32bit lenny to 64bit lenny?)
Thanks for your help,
B. Bogart
