There was a recent PR on Github that had a new icon for macOS that was merged, but I (for one) am not sure it's right for Pd yet.
I was thinking more along the lines that vanilla adopt the pd extended icons which is higher quality and pretty great as is IMO. I looked in the pd-extended git repo on source forge but didn't find it or the master svg. Is it around somewhere?

If you mean my design here https://github.com/pure-data/pure-data/pull/56it has not been merged. I opened a previous PR for macOS icons but I closed that unmerged.

Miller merged upstream in the source forge repo, so it's not reflected in the Github PR mechanism. See the commit messages: https://github.com/pure-data/pure-data/tree/master/mac/stuff https://github.com/pure-data/pure-data/tree/master/mac/stuff

Oooohhh right. It's almost as if this git stuff is decentralised...
Well I am surprised it got merged so soon.

Anyway, if there's better stuff about I'm happy to grab it.
I have a copy of Pd extended (I think pretty much the latest one) squirreled away - I just stuck a copy of their icons here:
http://msp.ucsd.edu/tmp/pd-extended-icons.zip
I can't judge what makes a good mac icon (anything on a mac screen is ugly to me :)

Whichever you go with, here's a script for converting PNG files into retina *.icns: https://gist.github.com/rnkn/d29fcfbf1c46f9c1465468b8965175b6
Input needs to be PNG 1024 x 1024.
