Hey all,
I had to do jury duty on Wednesday, and they had free wifi while we waited, so for some reason that inspired me to try writing a complete autotools build system for Pd-devel. It builds Pd now, but there are some issues with the sound APIs that need to be sorted out.
I would appreciate feedback from anyone who is interested. After this experience, I am thinking that autotools are weird, but not so bad. I think that we should use them for the whole build system.

Hans,
Didn't I read last week that Iohannes was planning to convert everything over to Scons? I mean, it all seems very confusing, with the transition from CVS over to SVN, with almost none of the old info removed from the website, and having to hunt for what is there for SVN, it is hard to know what the state of the build system is, or how to even set things up to be included.
Is there some public place where people are discussing what is actually happening? Has someone taken to updating the website with what info is current and accurate?
I mean, don't get me wrong, it is wonderful that people are doing these things, but with different things happening with different people, no one seems to be on the same page.

This is where we discuss it. As for outdated docs, its just a matter of someone updating them. Which ones in particular are you tlaking about?
As for scons, I believe that IOhannes was expressing annoyance at scons.

From this page, you will notice that the first sublink to appear under
'developers' is 'cvs'. I don't remember exactly when the switch was made, but it seems more than six months has passed, and while there is information about the SVN stuff, it is under a page marked CVS. Just a little confusing. Maybe the main link should be changed to read "Repository", instead.
http://puredata.info/docs/developer/CodeGuidelines
Under this page, it talks a lot about using CVS, and it appears that the instructions there tell you about the old system. How does this compare with what you did today?
Hans, I would be very happy to help edit these things, I just don't want to step on someone else's toes, and "rewrite" their stuff, or delete something that should be there.
Let me know, thanks,
Mike

Please, feel free to update the docs! That would be great! They are all wiki pages, so worst comes to worst, the old revisions are stored.
