Category: pd-extended Group: v0.39.2 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Josh Steiner (joschi) Assigned to: Hans-Christoph Steiner (eighthave) Summary: InnoSetup--- higher default msecs setting
Initial Comment: right now the default audio setting for msecs of buffer is set to 70 ms. on my brand new vista laptop, the same was hideously distorted out of the box, probably not a good first impression.
perhaps the pd-settings.reg file should set a higher default setting, 300 ms or so. power users will go and tweak to get the best possible, but newbies won't know how to do that and most likely will just think PD is broken in its current state.

I can confirm this is a problem for me on Windows XP. And wow, until just now I had no idea others were experiencing it. I had to up my buffer to 100 ms to get the clicking to go away. I always thought there was something wrong with my computer or something... 70 ms seems pretty big to me, to be causing problems. I figured I'd get problems down at 20 ms or so. Please let me know if there's something I can do to improve latency on my laptop, because 100 ms sucks.

How does this fair on WinXP and Win2000? Maybe we can set different buffer sizes on the different versions of Windows.
