hello,
...well, I've been putting off a 10.2 posting until I had some things that I really couldn't get around, and the day has come!
...I was working on a pix_film-based video mixing app using a development version of GEM, and came to a point where I wanted to add the midi input/control...unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work. I'm using a m-audio usb 1x1 with the 3.0 drivers, and it works with MIDI monitor 1.13, but pd doesn't seem to recognize anything!
...also, has anyone noticed any tcl/tk weirdness under 10.2? I'm getting stalls all over the place, for instance opening a patch hangs until you move the cursor...actually, cursor movement seems necessary for any pd interface update...seems I've got TCL/TK 8.4a4, which is the latest I've seen around (with an installer, that is; is there a more current/stable cvs somewhere?)
...on the upside, I solved a problem or two I was having with some of GEM, and pix_film's are much faster now! Seems to've broken pix_movie, but probably not for long...also, this change makes it easier to do some of the other stuff I wanted to address before the next release...
help! jamie
I saw a friend get midi input (using a midiman USB 2x2) with 10.1.5 and PD without success. I could ask him to see what he did, but he was not PD expert, just a bigginer...
I'm using the same version of tcl/tk on my OSX as well, and I can confirm the mouse movement update issue. Mouse movement is not required for a PD GUI update, but it does seem to speed up GUI updates...
Good luck! Ben

Hi Ben, Jamie, other Mac OS X users--

I've put a compact (1.8 MB) double-clickable Tcl/Tk installer that works under Jaguar (and *only* under Jaguar) here:
http://www.comp.lancs.ac.uk/computing/users/atl/software/pd/osx/tcltk.dmg
It includes a patch that works around the mouse update issue, which seems to work for me on very initial testing. You might like to back up your tcl/tk frameworks and Wish Shell.app in case something goes horribly wrong.
Please take a look. I'd appreciate feedback.

Arg!!!! I meant *WITH* success. He did say something about midi devices being part of the OS core, no drivers needed... But there being no control panel for it yet... all very vague memories. Anyhow he might be on this list and reply!

Hi Jamie, all.
I believe tigital said this around Thu, 12 Sep 2002:

I've been chasing these issues around for the past couple of days. This weirdness is definitely at the tcl/tk level, and is well-known under 10.2 (Jaguar). There's a discussion on the mactcl list starting here: http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Mail/Message/tcl-mac/1345536
There *are* newer versions of Tcl/Tk than what you have. Tcl/Tk has just been brought to 8.4 release, and is available in source form at SourceForge... but people are reporting trouble building Tk (me too). There's a pre-compiled version of 8.4-final included in AlphaTK: ftp://ftp.ucsd.edu/pub/alpha/tcl/alphatk/Alphatk.dmg
...but that version doesn't work around the bug. There is a patch discussed in the thread above, but I haven't verified it yet (cos of compilation problems).
Best regards, adam
