How do I make a sf password work with svn ?
I did switch from "http://" to "https://" already. It was my first mistake. My second mistake was to use my old password (I changed passwords just before switching to public-keys). I'd like to understand my third mistake.
Even better, would be the ability to use SSH keys for logging into SVN.

Hi matju, I just replied to Miller on the same question (short answer, svn commit --username {username} [and maybe --password {password}]).
I've never tried the ssh thing, but I remember the words "svn+ssh" in the SVN book.
Cheers Luke

Does the same thing my previous command. Sorry.

svn checkout svn+ssh://pure-data.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/pure-data/trunk/desiredata/ ssh: connect to host pure-data.svn.sourceforge.net port 22: Connection timed out svn: Connection closed unexpectedly
So, still nothing. What should I try next?

by entering it when you are asked for it.
I did switch from "http://" to "https://" already. It was my first mistake.
why do you think this was a mistake. this is the way it should be done.
My second mistake was to use my old password (I changed passwords just before switching to public-keys).
you should use your valid password. it is the one you are using to log into the sf bug-tracker. sf provides a way to reset your password if you ever have forgotten it.
I'd like to understand my third mistake.
me too.
since both you and miller are having a hard time to do the first time commit, i was already fearing that something does indeed not work, especially since all commits to the repository since the switch have been from me; but having a closer look, i find that at least one other person has managed to commit (luke), so it seems to be ok.
hopefully these first problems will soon be gone.

Woops, I wanted to say that my first mistake was to use "http://" instead of "https://". Chun also made the same mistake, which I quickly found for him, and then realised that I also had done the same for my main checkout. fortunately this can be fixed on an existing checkout using a sed+find kind of command.

Well, yes. at some point, I tried logging into the bug-tracker/website and did so until I found my real password. anyway, nevermind, it was irrelevant to say this...
I'd like to understand my third mistake.

What's the difference between svn.puredata.info and pure-data.svn.sourceforge.net supposed to be?

some svn clients (e.g. kdesvn) have an option "relocate repository" which will do this for you - but i guess internally these use find/sed too...

oh, now i understand!
DO NOT USE svn.puredata.info!
this was just a quick way to demonstrate what the repository will look like; it is not writeable at all. sorry if this was unclear. i will remove svn.puredata.info to avoid future confusion.
(in theory, one could also setup a redirect from svn.puredata.info to pure-data.svn.sourceforge.net; however this might generate problems when moving files around (due to the webdav frontend), so i won't do it)

Well, ideally they are supposed to use an XML parser and look for specific properties... anything else is playing with fire. I know that I'm taking chances by using plain sed.

I have already switched to pure-data.svn.sourceforge.net. I got a bit confused with sed and what the paths should be, that I redid a checkout instead, to be sure. I wanted to use sed, because I had already started to use my existing checkout a bit.
I became able to commit a few minutes ago.

I don't understand...

It's also available in the standard svn client: $ svn swith --relocate FROM TO
Btw. Do some of you still remember that tcl-script many of us used to change the repository URLs after SF changed their layout? That's built into svn already. ;)
