Back when I was on the pd-cvs mailing-list, I'd have said that it's a good idea. I don't know how much pd-cvs has changed since. Well, of course it should be made in a way that won't flood the channel (e.g. sending one message per file changed would be a very bad idea, especially in project made of many many many small files).
About flooding the room with messages, there aren't that many commits, a few a day is a lot for this project, so I don't think that's a big concern.
I said it specifically because there is a tendency in CVS to handle each folder separately even when doing only one commit. So if you make a commit in 20 folders at once it could appear as 20 commits. Anyway. Let's try it. But then we'd have to compensate for those who are too shy to commit something because of the fear that it might "interrupt" someone else's conversation... ;)

Ok, I set up CIA.vc to post commit messages to #dataflow. Let me know if it bothers anyone and I can remove it.

I would prefer that one commit is one IRC message. In that case, it is friendlier with both wide screens and narrow screens.
How does it get changed to that?

It looks like you got this figure out. The configuration is in http://cia.vc , there is a "Bot" for #dataflow. This bot is set to "community ownership" so you should be able to edit it.
