Hi Ben,
Hey all, what is the best way to write a cross-platform video and audio external? (all OSs under MAX JMAX PD) Does flext give some API to machine specific video/audio?)
I think the audio case is clear - PD or Max/MSP gives you the API to your machine which is again abstracted by flext. Concerning video, flext has no corresponding API, since video is not a part of the kernel of both systems and can therefore hardly be accessed by using a an abstraction layer like flext. My looks into the future about that go into the direction of an extended kernel incorporating video in a way similar to DSP. (you may possibly want to have a look at gstreamer, a video/audio system for gnome)
best greetings, Thomas
