Hmm, I can't reproduce the problem right away (reading/writing mono .wav files using soundfiler is working fine) - how do I make this fail?
(will shuffle files around to get dde to load OK - this is something dumb about the way I copy files to windows).

Let me see if I can figure it out... Just tried and found out I can't run Pd at all in wine now - I need to add the dde lib (should have known :) Off to a concert but I'll see what I can figure out afterward.

Chikashi found a regression, it seems that one of the commits that's part of the whole win32 unicode suite breaks [soundfiler] loading files. The commit in question is 1089c6d1cef4dd82d9469ee1144bf022cb4f55c8 "Win32: use 'binary' file mode by default, we don't want the translations".
This patch is handy because it should make Win32 act more like POSIX, and never use the Win32 text translation mode crap. But apparently, something somewhere is relying on that. Any ideas as to how to fix this, or shall it just be reverted?
