Time to switch to SVN? ;)
while i do see your emoticon, i still have to say:
i am personally all for svn (iem has switched to svn on sourceforge just recently and it all works perfectly); however, i would strongly recommend to not switch NOW, just because the CVS harddisk crashed (or whatever their problems are).
-) a hardware failure can happen to a system running SVN as simple as to one running CVS. it just happened that CVS went down, it could as well have been SVN.
-) switching would involve a lot of careful preparation, especially in a project as big as pd (with so many people involved); it is not a matter of "right this system went down, lets get us running again with something else"
-) sf still does not provide an ACL mechanism for SVN
-) people are used to CVS!! i think the whole reasoning about whether to switch to SVN or not is void, as long as not everybody has agreed on and accepted using it. currently only a handful of developers have commented on SVN at all; i am still waiting for miller to say something on this...
I wasn't serious, it was very much ;) I totally agree with all you say above.
