maybe it's just another stupid idea, that will be discussed once and never realized (like the marketplace / bounty system),
We just couldn't agree on the bounty system. I was against it and in favour of forming a non-profit organization. I wouldn't step back from my opinion without seeing a proposal for a proper model of the bounty system. Obviously copying the Gnome bounty thing can't possibly work, and we do not even have the information about how they do it internally.
Who takes the decisions ? How can we assure that this will be fair ? Who decides what gets implemented, how ?
So this is the problem. Someone would have to really think about it, which means a lot of work, just as the formation of an organization, or just like the setup of the CVS. I wouldn't volunteer for such a task anymore, you are free to do so. Just get a critical amount of developers on your side and make sure the others don't run away completely.
The key here before we can make any decisions at all, we need to come up with a method of making decisions. I think the Debian model makes a lot of sense: one developer, one vote. We could just adopt a lot of the Debian model directly, since its tried-n-true and well developed.

A non-profit organization takes A LOT of work to set up, I've been thru it, as well as money to pay lawyers. And that's just for a U.S. non-profit, an international NGO could easily be much more work to set up. I am not at all opposed to doing it, I just think it doesn't make much sense right now. I think the way to go would be first set up an organization, then eventually make it a legal entity. Plus there are many decisions that will need to be made when setting up the NGO, so first, we need a mechanism for making decisions.

but what about a plugin api for pd? the readsf/writesf players could be improved (maybe similarly written to thomas's sfplay) and an api could be designed that makes it possible to support all kinds of audio formats ... mp3, ogg, flac, speex, libsndfile, whatever you want ... this api could also be used for the soundfiler ...
just a stupid idea to save some work ... but it will only work if several developers _cooperate_ which will be the mayor problem :-(
just my 2¢ ... tim
