...so I've added a pd-devel target, and it's doing the scons building just fine, but when it comes to packaging, I run into the following:
install -p /Users/tigital/puredataDev/packages/darwin_app/mac.r / Users/tigital/puredataDev/packages/darwin_app/build/Pd-0.39..app/ Contents/Resources/bin cd /Users/tigital/puredataDev/packages/darwin_app/build/ Pd-0.39..app/Contents/Resources/bin && /Developer/tools/Rez -t APPL mac.r -o pd /bin/sh: line 1: cd: /Users/tigital/puredataDev/packages/ darwin_app/build/Pd-0.39..app/Contents/Resources/bin: No such file or directory make: *** [rez_install] Error 1
...it seems like it's making a file called 'bin' instead of a directory: how do I get around that?
...nevermind: I was forgetting to add "install" to the scons script (and a "prefix=..."), so now this is behaving a bit more like I'd expect...still need to make some changes to the SConstruct/ SConscript to account for Pd.app's bundle structure...
I guess its too late to resurrect the autoconf build system for pd- devel... it seems like a waste to maintain two totally distinct build systems. But I am glad to see that you are getting this going.

If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of exclusive property, it is the action of the thinking power called an idea, which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps it to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into the possession of everyone, and the receiver cannot dispossess himself of it. - Thomas Jefferson
