Initial Comment: When creating a symbol out of a number, Pd generates different symbols depending on how you do it. This generates a symbol with the contents "7", [symbol 7( :

This generates a blank symbol, [symbol (:
[symbol 7( |
This also generates a blank symbol, [symbol (:
[bang( | [symbol 7]
This generates a symbol with the contents "float", [symbol float(:
[7( | [symbol]
Only [makefilename %c] seems to do the right thing. See attached patch to try for yourself.
