Summary: complaining about [route] with mixed-type arguments
Initial Comment:
quoting the reference-patch of [route]:
"Route checks the first element of a message against
each of its
arguments, which may be numbers or symbols (but not a
mixture of the two.)"
however, creating [route 5 bla] is possible and no
hints are given that this is illegal.
attached is a patch that checks the creation arguments,
and if they are illegal, no object will be created
(with some verbosity, so the user knows what went wrong)

Summary: route bug with zero-length lists ("bang") in float-mode
Initial Comment:
when sending a "bang" message [route] in float-mode
(e.g. [route 1 2]), the bang will silently vanish.
i think this is due to the fact, that now "bang"s are
equal to zero-length-lists which are discarded by the
route_list-method in float-mode.
anyhow, the attached patch (against pd-0.38-4) will
send the "bang" to the reject-outlet

(moving to pd-dev)
hi hans, hi devs,
hans, would it be possible that you apply the patch i sent to the
pd-list to the maxlib cvs? (olaf is not using the cvs)
i'd commit the patch myself, but i'm not allowed to ... maybe locking
out everyone is a bit too restrictive ...
cheers ... tim

Hi all,
I made changes to portaudio and portmidi in cvsmain... compiles OK on linux
and mac, not sure about windows yet. Continuing to hack on data
structure stuff, plus fixing some bugs.
cheers

hi all, especially miller, matju and winfried ...
just a few comments, since i had to leave very early ...
- i'd definitely prefer to use multiple threads instead of multiple
processes, since it's easier to share data, since we don't have the
socket connection ... on the other hand, it wouldn't be that easy to
build a custom gui for pd ... (except when adding a send/recv h
anyway, since the tcl/tk code is virtually everywhere in the pd core,
it's already pretty impossible to build a custom gui ...
still, i'd strongly vote for seperating g
- a short time ago, i was doing some low latency benchmarks ... it seems
that the send / recv system calls should be avoided in a realtime thread
... having a gui _thread_ it would be possible to synchronize gui /
kernel via the lock-free fifos, that are implemented in devel ...
basically, i'm not sure, if we should use an external scripting language
for the gui at all ... of course, it's faster to write and easier to
maintain, but it's usually much slower than plain c ...
cheers ... tim

hi, i had to do a copy & paste of this reply from Frank
from the list archives on the web, as I didn't get it on my mailbox.
first I though I was not only getting back my original posts, but it
*seems* like I don't receive messages from the pd-dev list since
january!
I thought i was not subscribed to the list for some reason, so tried to
re-suscribe, and got a "privacy alert" from mailman, saying I'm
subscribed.
can you help me discover what stupid thing I'm doing somewhere if it's
me? it's quite annoyting to check the archives each time...
i reply Frank below:

ok, this is the point of discussion held some time ago.
*why* not default to reply to the list?
it's very annoying to have to 'reply all' if you want to keep the thread
on the list (which is usually what we prefer, or not?)
> The pd-lists don't touch your decision, who to sent mail to, at all.
well, but they can decide as well: Reply to original sender, or Reply to this list
for sure, i'm also admin for several lists running mailman.
so my stressy request is to change default to "Reply to this list".
can someone make clear why it's not like this? or why it's prefered to not do it this way?
sorry for being annoying, but I fell quite sure that this beheaviour would be
more appropiate.
i usually do normal "reply", which defaults to original poster with the pd lists.

i was using mutt several years before, for some silly reasons I moved to Evolution,
which sucks quite much, but I still don't think it should depend on the client email app.
a normal reply, should point you directly to the list, a reply all, ok, to the list,
and the poster.. if you want to start the private thread, you simply remove the
pd-$list, and you are set ;)

i know, thanks for the tip anyway,
til later,

hi again,
i've posted two messages yesterday on this list,
they didn't get back to me yet (I'm subscribed as medialist(a)xicnet.com)
but I got an answer from Olaf, so I noticed the mail went through the
list. but still don't have my original posts.
I've checked the mail.log in my server and seems to not have received
any smtp input from the pd-list mailserver [iem.kug.ac.at].
I see the messages show in the archive
http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-dev/2005-05/thread.html
does this happen to any of you as well?
IOhannes you are the list admin, right? would you be so kind to give a
check to this, bitte? thx .. i know it's boring, but also not receiving
the mails from the list is much more boring ;)
if there is anyhthing I could help on, plz tell.
last thing:
we discussed this a bit before, but I still feel not convinced about it:
why do the list replies go back to the original poster rather than the
list itself?
I really think that if a post produces replies they should remain as a
public thread, whereas now it drops into a private exchange.
is this really what we need/like/prefer? why?
thanks for the pacience
have a nice day,
ramiro.

sorry, seems like now I'm spamming this list.
just forgot to mention (and it would be unfair to not do so)
that a lot of valuable help was provided to me by Yves and IOhannes
to make oggcastw~ possible.
many thanks to you folks!
