Hi !
I would like to know where the configuration system of pd is heading
to. I have read many months ago that the ~/.pdrc was deprecated.... I
like that system, even though it is not possible to include comments
in it.
Maybe a system that would be nice to migrate to is the
http://www.jedsoft.org/slang/ interpreter, which is somewhat similar
to a simplified C syntax. I know there are many languages like this
one (namely Lua, processing, etc.) but this one looks nice. For those
that like the console to write software, you should check out the Jed
editor, by the same author.

Summary: .pd file loads before libraries
Initial Comment:
On Mac OS X, if the user double-clicks a .pd file and
Pd is not running, then that .pd file is loaded before
the libraries are loaded. Double-clicking a .pd file
when Pd is already running works fine.

which libraries are loaded too late? the ones declared in
the startup-prefs or the ones declared in the patch (with
[declare] or by other means)

Hello,
I'm trying to compile some externals for the new Mac Intels we have in our
department: I already successfully compiled them for Windows and Linux but
I can't find a way to properly compile them under Mac OS X.
I started from the Linux makefiles and I changed them accordingly to some
posts I found here and there
(http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2003-01/009336.html and the
source code in the 'src' sub-directory of pd).
After a few tweaks, I succeded to compile the first external but when
using it in pd I get the following error from the pd console:
/pd_externs/impact_modalb~.pd_darwin:
dlopen(/pd_externs/impact_modalb~.pd_darwin, 10): no suitable image found.
Did find:
/pd_externs/impact_modalb~.pd_darwin: mach-o, but wrong architecture
(obviously '/pd_externs/' is the path where the library
'impact_modalb~.pd_darwin' is)
I can't find any documentation about compiling externals... please help!
Thanks in advance,
Stefano

Summary: v/hslider may modify icoming numbers
Initial Comment:
Sliders should pass incoming numbers unchanged, but
they don't.
The slider objects vsl and hsl may modify incoming
integer numbers. Sending for example the integer "2" to
a slider with a range of 0-7 will make it output
2.00024 instead of 2. Attached example illustrates this.

There is a problem in PD 0.39-2 (0.40 test is affected too).
When you type in a template:
[struct foo float bar, float pok, float something]
pd crashes (under linux).
Don't ask me why did I put a comma here!

Summary: Arguments to canvas object (cnv) do not take effect
Initial Comment:
The canvas object seems to take arguments happily enough - while I
could not find this documented, I discovered what went where by trying
"cnv a b c d e f g h..." and checking where they ended up in the
properties. This worked, but while the arguments appear in the
properties, they do not actually "show up" in the canvas until the property
window is closed again.
I've attached a patch that demonstrates this behavior.
(I was hoping to build a "canvas generator" that would save me the
trouble of opening property windows to set dimensions or a recieve
symbol that could be used with Joao Miguel Pais's "gui-edit" abstraction.
But the receive symbol does not start functioning until the props are
opened, then closed.)
Also, the first 3 arguments do not seem to do anything (they'd logically
control "selectable size" and the x and y dimensions of the canvas).

this is, because you are using wrong arguments and not
because of a bug in [cnv].
attached is a working patch (which uses more arguments than
the original one)
there are 4 possibilities to "reverse engineer" the
arguments of an object:
1) read the help (won't help you with [cnv])
2) read the pd-list (ask! chances are high that somebody
already solved your problem)
3) read the patch (save a patch with the object as you would
like it; open the patch with a text editor; look which
arguments are used; understand what the arguments mean)
4) read the source
esp. #3 is a very simple and efficient and good way to
discover the arguments of an object (the object usually
knows best which arguments it needs)
