Using a windows vista laptop system with pd extended 40.3 rc1
The application immediately crashes when opening the select object help patch. I am not able to reproduce the crash with any other help patches so far.

I don't have access to a Vista machine. I tried opening the [select] help
file on WinXP using 0.40.3-extended-20080616 and it did not crash. Maybe
try the most recent version? Or try removing [multiselect] from that help
file.

Summary: Gem right-click help broken: Win32 Pd-extended 0.40-3
Initial Comment:
running Pd version 0.40.3-extended-20080721 (released version) I get error "sorry, couldn't find help patch for "<insert Gem object here>" if I right-click on any Gem object and select "help" from the context menu. The Gem help patches are available, however, if I drill down to them through 5.reference -> Gem in the browser of the help menu.

Message:
For the currently released 0.40-3 there's an easy fix:
* Open Pd
* Go to File -> Startup...
* At the bottom of the dialog screen that opens, you will see a textbox
labeled "Startup flags:". Click inside the text box
* Using the right arrow, move your cursor to the very end of the text in
the text box. Add one space, then type this *exactly* as it is here:
-helppath c:/PROGRA~1/pd/doc/5.reference/Gem
* (note the space after helppath and no other spaces)
* click "apply" then click "ok"
* close Pd
* reopen and the right-click for help patches should work

Yeah, this has been fixed, but the Windows build machine died before I
could get the fixed release out. John Harrison and Joao Miguel Pais have
donated the new parts, I just need to get the time to get that machine up

Summary: oggread~ crashes when non existing file is loaded
Initial Comment:
when you load a file that does not exist into oggread~ and try to play it, then pd crashes.
you can test this with the helpfile. first click on "load myfile.ogg" (which does not exist) and then on start.
on my machine (osx 10.5.2) this crashes pd. (extended 0428).

This does not happen on Mac OS X 10.4.11/Intel using Pd-extended
0.40.3-20080528
(in the future, please use complete version numbers, like above, otherwise
it can easily be ambiguous).

Message:
... oops, my fault: I removed any2string, string2any, and sprinkler from
flatspace a few months ago, since the duplicates seemed to be causing some
confusion. See the pd-list archives for August 2008:
http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2008-08/064506.htmlhttp://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2008-08/064512.html
I still maintain that the windoof autobuild machine has a broken version
of make, and that v3.79 is not broken in that sense.
I also have no windows machine on which to test, so it's a bit difficult
for me to support that platform. I see 3 possible solutions at the
moment:
1) someone fixes the make on the autobuild machine (opinions, Hans?)
- variant "1b": I call an alternate un-broken make from the "moocow"
snippet of externals/Makefile instead of using $(MAKE).
2) I stop using macros in externals/moocow/extended/Makefile; possibly
even generating windows-specific makefiles for each subdirectory of
moocow/
- ugly, time-consuming, and harder to maintain
3) I (or someone else) place any2string and string2any (and maybe
sprinkler) back into flatspace
- redundant, confusing, help files don't get installed, mismatched
versions, ...
Of these, (1) and (3) would be easiest for me. I don't care much for
(2)... I could deal without the macros on this scale, but they sure are
handy...

Summary: Pd leaks file-handles with alsa
Initial Comment:
Pd-0.40 on linux with ALSA severly leaks file-handles when starting/stopping the DSP.
whenever you restart the DSP the /dev/snd/control* devices are opened anew, but none are closed.
this eventually leads to a "too many open files" error, which will keep you from saving your patches (and restarting the DSP)
this appears with Pd-0.40-2
it has been fixed in Pd-0.41 and above
i am just reporting the bug for the sake of completeness.
