Message:
probably affects all versions of pd ever, except desiredata starting with
commit#12248 today. basically it's a bug introduced in pd in order to cover
up a bigger bug that exists in all branches except desiredata, and then in
desiredata i forgot to remove the covering bug. this covering bug is called
"proc enquote" in all versions of pd that i know about.

Summary: PdX and Debian filesystem policy
Initial Comment:
PdX installs _all_ documentation into /usr/lib/pd/doc.
it does not install anything into /usr/share/doc/pd-extended, which is the natural place to look for help on a debian system. (as a matter of fact it is used so often, that it can be regarded as a "list of installed packages"; pd-extended does not show up here)
it would be nice if at least a note on where to find the "real" documentation would be placed into /usr/share/doc/pd-extended.
as stated in debian's policy http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile e"very package must be accompanied by a verbatim copy of its copyright and distribution license in the file /usr/share/doc/package/copyright".
PdX violates the debian policy in this regard.

Message:
.pd files are not static files like HTML, they are more like .pl or .py
files. Therefore, it is perfectly appropriate for the help patches to go
into /usr/lib/pd. It would not be appropriate to include them in
/usr/share/doc/pd... since they are not really viewable using less, a text
editor, or a web browser. I discussed this at length during the Debian Bug
Squashing Party in NYC back at the end of January.

yes, the packages need a lot of work, and I am sure there are tons of
policy violations, and I am a big beliver in Debian Policy. But there are
only so many hours in the day.
Anyone should feel free to do this since I probably won't get to it for a
while.

Summary: Makefile use "pd_src" for path-to-pd-without-src
Initial Comment:
several makefiles use the "pd_src" variable to point to /where/is/my/pd/ rather than /where/is/my/pd/src.
this makes the code unreadable, as the variable name suggests that it holds the path to the Pd-sources, esp when it comes to $(pd_src)/src and similar
please use a more general variable name for this, e.g. "PD_PATH"
(i would suggest upper-case according to http://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/make.html#toc_Using-Variables).
done for the ext13 skeleton Makefile

I am fine with a clearer naming scheme, but it would take more than just
this little change. 'pd_src' goes with 'externals_src',
'abstractions_src', 'doc-src', etc.

Summary: general audio meter
Initial Comment:
audio meters are very nice, but not 100% helpful. the sound level is connected to the actual sound volume of the system, and not to pd dac~ output (independently of how many there are). wouldn't the latter make more sense?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
>Comment By: Hans-Christoph Steiner (eighthave)
Date: 2010-04-12 23:43
Message:
I am not sure which audio meters you mean. As far as I know, the meters in
the Pd window are related to dac~ output, but I could be wrong.

I can't reproduce this on WinXP fully updated using Pd-extended

I am guessing it might be an issue with your audio interface or driver.

Summary: Pd-extended doesnt install under Ubuntu 9.10
Initial Comment:
The 9.10 version of Ubuntu is out in 4 days from now. I tried installing pd-extended for 9.04 version but it misses dependencies - libmagick++1. In 9.10 there is libmagick++2. If i force the install PD runs OK, GEM doesnt load because opf missing libmagick++1 libraries. However if i compile GEM from sources, it is OK. Please fix the dependencies issue for Ubuntu 9.10 and make a .deb package.

Hey, this is great! You should post it to the pd-list and/or forum for
other users. I'll try it once I upgrade my machine.
As for the bitstream font issue, that will be fixed in Pd-extended 0.42.5.
If you want to try fixing it in your package, look in pd/src/u_main.tk and
pd/src/s_main.c and replace "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono" with "DejaVu Sans
Mono" (I think, double-check that). Then edit
packages/linux_make/debian/control to change the package dependency.

because it isnt in Ubuntu 9.10
is it possible to make pd use sth else then vera ?
The package is uninstalable like this because of the missing package.

I don't have access to a 9.10 machine yet. It should be pretty easy to
build there tho. Try it out, and we can post your build for others. FIrst
install the required packages:
http://puredata.info/docs/developer/Debian
Then build the pd-extended package:
http://puredata.info/docs/developer/BuildingPdExtended
If you have any troubles, try irc://irc.freenode.net/dataflow and/or the
pd-dev list: http://puredata.info/community/lists
