Hi all,
Some of you met me last year at the PDCON09, when I presented a
Binaural Synthesis external for PD that I did.
I'm a 27 years old ex-engineer, specialized in artificial intelligence
and sound processing... I'm currently doing a Phd on expressive Text
to speech synthesis in Paris.
Since I received few emails of people asking me to provide them the
binaural external I did, I'd like to put it on the PD SVN. In order to
do it, I need to have write access to PD SVN.
My sourceforge account correspond to rudk(a)users.sourceforge.net .
Can someone add me to the list of the developpers?
Regards,

Summary: even more exported symbols for audio/midi API
Initial Comment:
sorry to keep coming up with functions that (i think) need to be exported from s_stuff.
here are some more slight changes (mainly adding EXTERN to 5 more functions in s_stuff.h)
originally i thought of using the "audio-dialog" and "midi-dialog" messages to pd to set audio/midi properties in the IntegraLive project, but it turns out, that this is rather limited (e.g. we can only set 4 midi in/out devices because of the "midi-dialog" message, whereas the C-code would actually allow more)
please include for 0.43

Summary: set cursors in Tcl per-platform to get good behavior on all
Initial Comment:
This simple patch sets the mouse cursors per-platform in pd-gui.tcl. First, the allows the mouse cursors to work properly on all platforms, second it allows the mouse cursors to be customized both from patches and from GUI plugins. Its been in Pd-extended since 0.40.3

Message:
There was a call to pdtk_canvas_saveas that used "" for quotes. This patch
switches it to use {} like the rest of Pd. That way you can use " [ ', etc
in filenames. All chars should work except {}. To support {}, we need to
make much bigger changes.

Summary: [bugfix] array boundaries
Initial Comment:
in Pd-0.43 the table boundaries do not work.
to reproduce:
- create a new array (keep everything default)
- draw something into the array
- right-click the array to go to properties
- close the "array properties", we only want to modify the "canvas properties"
- change (e.g.) the Y-range from 1,-1 to 1,0
- click on Apply
- the table content vanishes
- the pd-console prints 5 times "shouldvis 0: array"
you cannot draw anything in the array anymore (nor see the contents)
whenever you move the mouse over the array a "shouldvis 0: array" is printed
save/open does not help

Message:
ooh, that was ugly...
it turns out that the problem was following:
if, after changing the boundaries, table values would be out of the
graph's rectangle, the graph would refuse to update.
attached patch fixes this by adding garray_class to the exceptions (like
scalar_class), that are displayed regardless of whether they go
out-of-bounds.
i reason that this is acceptable, as the current state of affairs (without
my patch) would allow the user to draw in the array und thus create
out-of-bounds values: when they save the patch (with
"save-contents-of-array" enabled) and re-open the patch, all values are
invisible!

forgot to specify my used Pd-version: 0.43-test4 (ceb8db7372)
since millers commit f5cabbb531cdee, the "shouldvis" message has obviously
disappeared, but the problem with arrays not displaying their content
persists.

Summary: [bugfix] allow to type UTF8 characters in symbolatoms
Initial Comment:
since Pd-0.43 patches can handle UTF-8 characters. great!
unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work when typing in symbolboxes.
example:
i switch to a russian(DOS) keyboard layout
i create a message box and type the keys 'asd' which correctly shows up as 'ыфв'
i create a symbolgatom and type the keys 'asd' which incorrectly show up as 'DK2'
note: sending a [symbol ыфв( to the symbolgatom, will correctly display it.
it seems like the keyboard input sanitation code for the symbolbox perverts my input.

anyhoo, you might want to also:

so that things don't break if we need the full UCS-4 range someday.

anyhow, i have a fix for the problem.
instead of writing the wchar into a char, the wchar is first decoded to
utf8 using u8_wc_toutf8() and only then written into the symbol-buffer of
the atom.
this seems to work fine.
the attached patch modifies g_text.c and applies to f5cabb ("took out
debug msg")

Message:
@mukau: no, LC_* are not changed at all (btw, they are set to de_AT.UTF-8
here)
the kbd layout changes only effect the key->character mapping, way before
tk is involved.
also note, that tk can handle all quite well, as can most parts of Pd
(confirm: i can type cyrillic characters in objects, msgboxes and
comments)
it's only gatom's that do some additional magic to filter out unwanted
characters, and then write the received wchar into a char without checking.

What exactly does "changing the keyboard layout" entail? Does it e.g.
change your locale (LC_ALL, LC_CTYPE, etc.)? That might annoy Tk's unicode
handling...

one more thing:
in the original report i said that typing 'asd' should result in 'ыфв'
which is wrong.
it should rseult in ''фыв'
('a'='ф', 's'='ы', 'd'='в')

Comment By: IOhannes m zmlnig (zmoelnig)
Date: 2011-01-18 09:30
Message:
btw, in normal (de) kbd-layout, when i type (and releae) 'a', pd-gui
sends:
.x99e9708 key 1 97 0;
.x99e9708 key 0 97 0;
whereas when i switch to russian, pd-gui sends (again key 'a'):
.x99e9708 key 1 1092 0;
.x99e9708 key 0 a 0;
"1092" is the unicode number for "Ñ„" (which is what should show up, when
i press 'a')
i don't know why the keyup sends 'a' instead.

Summary: remove CPU assumptions from build system
Initial Comment:
Currently in the configure.ac, for Mac OS X and Windows, there are some CPU-assumptions in the CFLAGS. This patch removes them so that Pd will be more likely to build on all platforms. This patch directly fixes building on Mac OS X/PowerPC, which currently does not build.

Hi All
What I’m trying to do is to be able to dynamically create instances of
Pd, so I can have separate signal paths for each patch (i.e. not
static). I'm actually working with libpd, but it's still pd under the
hood. The reason being that I want to make an audio plugin for Logic,
and hopefully other formats, so people can create their instruments
and effects in Pd.
At the moment, since everything is static in Pd, my audio unit works
fine when there’s only one instance, but sounds dreadful or crashes
when there’s another one running – this is because its running the
same instance of Pd, but calling libpd_process_float() for both
patches twice in one block.
I’ve tried a couple of ways now to make libpd instanceable:
1. Make it into a dylib, then dynamically load it for each instance.
This doesn’t work because when you load the lib a second time, the OS
sees that it’s the same lib and reuses the one in memory (even if I
copy the lib to a new location with a new name!!)
2. Hacking the Pd source. I’ve had a little bit of success with this,
but I don’t really know what I’m doing, and was hoping there would be
someone out there who could point me in the right direction. I’ve been
trying to copy and clear the dsp_chain after loading each patch, and
then swapping them back before each individual render. What I've got
at present sometimes works for simple patches, but usually crashes
pretty quickly.
Anyone have any ideas? Am I doomed?
cheers
Marek

Summary: crazy popup dialog asking whether to discard changes
Initial Comment:
Steps to reproduce:
- create and save an abstraction called myabs.pd. Close it.
- create and save a new patch in the same folder called main.pd
- in main.pd instantiate a [myabs] object
- open the [myabs] object, modify it without saving, close it.
- in main.pd, in edit mode, click on the [myabs] object
Expected result: nothing should happen, except the [myabs] instance should be selected
Observed result:
myabs.pd is opened in its own window, and a dialog window pops up asking "Discard changes in myabs.pd?"
Besides the question making no sense at all, note that this is the old pd-vanilla-like message, that in Pd-Extended is usually replaced by the opposite question "Save changes in...". But I am using Pd-Extended
If you select "yes" (to discard changes), then the "*" in the windows' title bar disappears, but the content of the window doesn't revert to as it was before being changed. So you're seing a completely inconsistent situation, in which:
- you have modified the contents of the instance of [myabs]
- yet myabs.pd's window doesn't show the "*" in the title bar, as if it had been saved after changing it.
Pd-Extended 0.42.5
Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit
I can't set the priority but this is definitely critical.
