Summary: [line] ignores slew time after a stop message
Initial Comment:
If you send a [stop( message to a [line] object (no matter whether it was running or already stopped), if the next message it receives is a pair, it will ignore the second element (the slew time) and jump to the target value immediately.
This doesn't happen 100% of the time, there must be some more condition to it but I can't find the exact pattern.
See attached patch

Summary: folder_list doesn't handle relative paths correctly on winxp
Initial Comment:
If I have a patch in a folder on the desktop, [folder_list] will default to that folder. But if I then try to use relative paths like [symbol ../*( , my results will have the right path, but it will list the files in the parent of pd/bin. In other words, relative paths default to the path where pd was started from, but the returned files have the path relative to the patch's folder prepended to them.

I confirmed it on Windows XP. Plus I think I actually fixed it, and a bug
related to the Windows backslash bashing. Here's the commits:

Summary: dumpOSC fails to create if no arguments
Initial Comment:
If you try to create a [dumpOSC] without supplying a creation argument (the port number I guess, btw there's no help patch), it fails to create but it gives no specific error message. Just as if the dll wasn't found.

Message:
sure
i only looked at the code and there it says that it will print out the
error before failing to create.
at this point i hadn't even tried to create an OSCx object.
then, i added an "OSCx is deprecated" message to the three OSCx objects
(which get's printed whenever one of these objects is created), which i
think is enough hint for the user (rather than creating help-patches).
while doing so, i i also created [dumpOSC] (without args) and can confirm
that it also prints out the warning about empty arguments (i also added a
hint that a "port number" is missing)
i think with my additions (deprecation-message and hint that it is the
port-number that's missing) we can close this issue

Comment By: Matteo Sisti Sette (sistisette)
Date: 2010-04-21 11:39
Message:
IOhannes, OK I won't use dumpOSC, I didn't know it was deprecated. It would
be fine to include some note in the help patches (which don't exist) so
that a user can know the objects are deprecated.
Regarding this:
> furthermore, [dumpOSC]will print out an error to the console if you
don't
> specify an argument ("[dumpOSC] needs at least one argument")
maybe your version does; I use the Pd Extended precompiled binaries for
Windows from puredata.info, and I can assure you that the only error
message that appears on the consol is:
dumpOSC: couldn't create

Message:
furthermore, [dumpOSC]will print out an error to the console if you don't
specify an argument ("[dumpOSC] needs at least one argument")
the message could be more meaningful (i changed that now), but it still
has tto be read....

Message:
i will not get tired of that:
do not use [dumpOSC] (and other friends from OSCx), as they are buggy,
outdated, unmaintained and superceded by the better-designed, up-to-date,
actively maintained objects from mrpeach.
the objects are mainly there for legacy reasons.

Hello,
there will be two events related to the laptop trio Endphase in next
Monday at NK
http://www.nkprojekt.de/, Elsenstr. 52/, 2.Hinterhaus Etage 2, 12059
Berlin Neukölln
We hope to see you there.
- 14h-17h - Endphase project lecture
Endphase (Alberto C. Bernal and João Pais) and Servando Barreiro as guest.
http://www.endphase.net/http://minitronics.net/
Conceptual electroacoustic improvisation: theory, aesthetics and
performance tools
This presentation addresses central technical and aesthetic aspects
related to the programming and performance of live electronic music. Its
contents reflect the experiences made by the Endphase project's years of
activity, and shares this information with a public as specialized as
necessary. Concrete and detailed examples will be given about Endphase 17,
to be presented on the 14th of May at the Lange Nacht der elektronischen
Musik of the Mehrklang Festival, Freiburg.
The presentation covers theme groups developed out of various experiences
with the Endphase Project:
- Sound synthesis and treatment of sources
- Patch control and work with sensors
- Video design and interactivity with audio
- Networking and conceptual strategies
These topics reflect on the several and simultaneous approaches necessary
to the preparation of a performance. Topics 1 and 2 discuss the technical
and pragmatical issues related with the development of the necessary
software and hardware. That includes the design of the synthesis and
processing software, and how it is connected with the ideas behind the
performance. If follows then with the work with data input (acoustic
signals, tablets, midi faders, sensors, DIY instruments, ?) and their
suitableness to process control,
space control in real time, audio/video integration, ...
The 3rd topic discusses the technical and aesthetical questions arising
from the development of both video and audio layers. How to implement
them
technically, and possibilities on balancing both layers in order to get a
cohese result.
The 4th topic concerns with issues of aesthetic and theoretical planning,
which will make clear some possible strategies in structuring the formal
and conceptual dimensions of a performance ? including on how to connect
the players through the OSC protocol in order to elaborate precise formal
gestures.
- 18h SHARP!-20h - Private concert and discussion: Endphase 17
Endphase (Alberto C. Bernal and João Pais) and Servando Barreiro as guest.
http://www.endphase.net/http://minitronics.net/
"Endphase 17" is a performance to be presented on the 14th of May at the
Lange Nacht der elektronischen Musik of the Mehrklang Festival, Freiburg.
This consists of one piece of ca. 40 minutes using both live audio and
video.
Endphase 17 was conceived around the motto of the Mehrklang Festival 2010,
"Das Eigene und das Fremde". There will be a short talk about the project,
followed by the performance.
After the performance we would like to invite everyone to give their
opinion about the presented work, and to start a (hopefully fruitful)
discussion about any themes related to it.

Summary: expr and dollarsign variable tomfoolery
Initial Comment:
If a dollarsign variable like $1 exists in an abstraction (and has a float value assigned) it can be used with impugnity, such as [expr int($1)]. However, if $1 does not exist, as in a newly created patch with <ctrl-n>, [expr int($1)] will not create. As a workaround, one must appease the expr parser by offering up sacrificial spaces to pad the $1 like so:
[expr int( $1 )]

Summary: context menu offset
Initial Comment:
Hello
when you move objects outside the visible window, on the upper side or the left side (for example when you move a group of things to make room fo new objects), the display is re-adapted so that the object being too far up or left are displayed again. This is fine but in this situation, the context menu (with 'properties', 'open', 'help') gets an offset, so when you click on an object to open it or get help, the context menu is displayed far off the object, up or left, depending how you moved the objects before.
It is possible to repair this offset by moving the whole patch down or right. But would it be possible to simply avoid this offset in any case?
Thanks to all for this great software.
