Summary: gripd fails to compile on gcc > 4.2.x
Initial Comment:
The autobuild process doesn't even try to build it, or install anything beyond some text files and help patches.
Please see attached patches which allow my gcc-4.3.2 to compile.
1) Array.cpp uses some members of a base class (Collection) without dependent context. "this->" applied liberally.
2) Sequencer_alsa.h defined some members with an extra Sequencer_alsa:: qualifier---unneeded.
3) MidiInPort_{oss,alsa}.h have functions which call upon a friend function which is not defined within the scope of the relevant MidiInPort class. Thus, the function is not within the scope of the class. Just added a declaration in the relevant header file. Alternatively, -ffriend-injection may be passed to gcc. This topic was obscure to me, see link for discussion: http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-help/2007-05/msg00222.html
Solution inferred from here: http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.1/changes.html

Ok, I applied these and it compiled on Debian/stable, so I checked them in.
FYI: gripd has no maintainer, and I don't know anything about it. If you
are a user of it, it would be great if you could maintain it.

And one of those makefiles looks in /usr/include/python2.2 for Python.h
Since the build process is "dumb" I just changed this to
/usr/include/python2.6
Python's distutils may be the solution to find the right path

Summary: pd eats all processor resources after suspend
Initial Comment:
yes, its like that. pd eats all aviable processor resources after suspend until i close it. i have compiled version 0.42.5 without any errors on my ubuntu karmic (x64), using AMD Turion MK-36

Message:
With Pd 0.41.4 extended on OSX 10.5 the same behaviour happens. More
specific I have noticed this: a switched-on metro object will send all it's
suspended messages at wake up after sleep. This makes Pd using 99% cpu
during some time, depending on the length of sleep period.

An example patch is always very helpful, especially if it triggers the
problem every time that it is run. Ideally the example patch would have
only enough objects to cause the problem, but nothing else.

ok, i logged in.
yes, but it is curious, why pd have to compute everything what had to be
done during sleep? it sounds useless.
i tried suspend my computer (for 5sec) with opened pd, but without opened
patch, it happens again - eats all aviable cpu (until i kill the proces),
but no patch opened.

Message:
i can't reproduce this :
pd 42.5 ubuntu karmic i386
however, after suspend, pd have to compute everything that as not been
computed during suspend. so it can eat all cpu for some time, until it sync
again with real time. this is only if a patch that use cpu is open during
suspend.

Summary: textfile cannot read from disk root in Windows
Initial Comment:
In Windows, If you send
[set foo bar, write /somefile.txt(
|
[textfile]
it will write the file to the root folder of the current drive, just as expected.
However, if you try to read it:
[read /textfile.txt(
|
[textfile]
it won't read it:
error: /textfile.txt: can't open
error: /textfile.txt: read failed
when obviously the file exists.
Note that:
- it does successfully write to the same path
- it does read from path starting with "/" other than the root, such as "/somedir/textfile.txt"
- it does read from the root if the disk unit is specified, such as "D:/textfile.txt"

Summary: corrected help patch for textfile
Initial Comment:
I corrected the following statements:
1) "You can read a file and output sequential lines AS LISTS" --> "as messages". (on the left, first paragraph)
It is not true that [textfile] always outputs lists: if the message is a list, it is output as list, if it is not, it is not. The message is simply output "as is".
2) "first send "clear" to empty THE QLIST" --> "the sequence". (on the left, second paragraph)
I guess this was copy-pasted from the help patch for [qlist]. The term "the sequence" is used in another part of the patch to refer to the sequence of message stored in the [textfile] object, so I suppose it is the best word to use here.
3) "You can also use this object simply for storing heterogeneous sequences OF LISTS." --> "of messages".
Same error as (1). It stores any kind of messages, not only lists.
4) "output one line AS A LIST" --> "as a message" (on the right, second item, comment to the "bang" input message)
Same error as (1)
5) The [print] object at the left outlet, I have replaced [print list] with [print message]. Though this is only a name and could be called anything, it is rather misleading to use "list" since it won't necessary output lists (and won't output any list at all with the example file and messages).

Summary: space character in gui labels causes disaster
Initial Comment:
Steps to reproduce:
1 - Open the attached patch
Note the size of the radio and toggle. Note also they have "send" symbols set to "xxx" and "yyy" respectively
2 - Click on the big bang at the top
This composes a symbol containing space characters and sends it as a label to both the radio and the toggle.
This seems to work: the label is actually set with spaces, and the radio and toggle still work.
However, if you right-click on any of them and try to select "properties", the properties dialog won't open
3 - Now save the patch and close it
4 - Open the patch again. The radio and toggle properties have been completely "reset": their size have been reset to default, and also the "number" property of the radio. They have lost their "send" symbol too: you can see the outlet and if you use them, the "r" objects won't receive anything.
However, if you open the properties dialog of the radio or toggle, you'll see that the "send" property is still there (not the same can be said for the size and number); if you now do Apply or Ok, the send symbol will be restored.
So, spaces in the label of a gui object cause weirdnesses and potential disaster. Note that data is lost (the properties of the gui objects) if the patch is saved after assigning such a label, and i is lost silently with no error message at any moment.
There are ather "forbidden" characters ithat don't behave properly n labels, such as the open square bracket "[" (as reported in another bug report). However the space character is more disatrous as it causes data loss.
Object should either accept ALL characters for a label, or properly detect and refuse forbidden characters, which should be documented, avoiding unexpected consequences.

Summary: textfile gives two error messages on read fail
Initial Comment:
If you try to read a file that does not exist with [textfile], i.e.:
[read nosuchfile.txt(
|
[textfile]
it will produce two error messages:
error: nosuchfile.txt: can't open
error: nosuchfile.txt: read failed
I think one error message would be enough (probably "read failed").

Summary: textfile "write failed" error message writing an empty file
Initial Comment:
Try this:
[clear, write emptyfile.txt(
|
[textfile]
It will print the error message: "error: emptyfile.txt: write failed",
but the file will be actually written. An empty file, just like one would expect.
Even if the file already exists, it will be overwritten with an empty file - again, just as expected.
The wrong thing is printing the error message since the write hasn't failed at all.
