Hello !
Since pure data just connects alle MIDI-ins and MIDI-outs to his instance
under alsamidi also the MIDI-Through is connected which in fact is a feedback
a therefore dangerous and bad.
If this behaviour is changes all old patches using MIDI (I used aconnect to
connect) doesnt work anymore.
Is there a reason for this behaviour ?
I think on alsa midi the philosophy is that connection should be done by alsa
tools. There are templates and so on so that automatically the right devices
are connected, no need for pd to do this (as for other programms which doesnt
respect this).

>Summary: BUG: "View list" listview broken for arrays with $0 in name
Initial Comment:
The "View list" function in the Properties context menu of arrays is broken, if the name of the array contains a $0. This only affects visible arrays in graphs, arrays in [table] objects work correctly with $0-names.
See attached test patch for a demonstration.
The error message given by Tk is:
can't read "0": no such variable
can't read "0": no such variable
while executing
"array_viewlist .gfxstub82e3a78 $0-array 0"
invoked from within

"uplevel #0 [list $w invoke]"
(procedure "tk::ButtonUp" line 22)
invoked from within
"tk::ButtonUp .gfxstub82e3a78.listview"

btw, the bug appeared with all uses of $args (e.g. $1-table is as bad as
$0-array)
however, the tiny attached diff (against todays cvs of 0.41) fixes this
bug by removing unneeded variables.

Please don't use spaces in filenames here, their names get mangled by
Sourceforge. I deleted the new example patch to not confuse readers. I
think the first example I posted already was illustrating the bug
sufficiently.

It seems any version is affected.
I tested with CVS HEAD (0.4x) and pd-ext 0.39 rc-2.

Which version of Pd? I hope it's not my bug ;) The version can be set in
the "Group" pulldown menu in the bug report form.

>Summary: BUG: shell portability fixes for configure.in
Initial Comment:
Hi,
configure.in (and configure) contains unportable shell
syntax.
The declared shell for configure, /bin/sh,
is not always a link to bash or ksh, which both support
== in comparisons. The original syntax for /bin/sh
only accepts = as comparison operator.
The appended fix changes == to =.

>Summary: BUG; [until] hangs if started with a negative number
Initial Comment:
If you send a negative number to an [until] object, it behaves as if you sent it a bang: i.e., it iterates an infinite number of times (unless a bang is received in the right inlet stopping the iterations).
Instead, it should either treat a negative number as zero, or generate an error message when it receive a negative number.
The documentation (i.e. help patch) says:
"If you start "until" with a number, it iterates at most that number of times".
Though "iterating at most -21 times" means nothing strictly speaking, it would make much more sense if it didn't iterate at all.
Also, it would be a warranty that sending it a number would never ever cause an infinite loop.
You may argue that sending [until] a [-21( is like writing:
for (int i=0; i<-21; i++)
which produces an infinite loop.
However, that's not the way [until] is described in the documentation. No initialization, testing condition and increment are mentioned.
So it should rather be compared to languages where a for loop looks like:
for i = M to N
In such languages, using M>N *usually* produces either a decrementing i or no iteration at all.
Finally, if one actually does want an infinite loop (obviously taking care of using the right inlet to stop it) s/he can do it with a [bang( message.
Obviously this is a minor issue, as one can always put a [max 0] before [until]

obviously the fix is trivial, i have attached a unified diff that reports
an error for negative values and refuses to perform.

Hi there,
I just don't get this one. I have an object (maskxor) with a [mode $1 ( method. I've attached an extra outlet to this object so I can see what its value is, and I have a post("mode = %d", x->mode); to display it in the PD window. The type of x->mode is t_float. Right, so when I change the mode from 0 to 1, I should see 1 on the mode outlet and "mode = 1" in the PD window, right? wrong. I get -1.463894 or something like that on the mode outlet, and -219478567583 or something in the PD window. Can someone pleeeeeease tell me what is going on?
Patch code and pd_linux object enclosed.
Best,
Ed

hi.
after the talk about svn at the pd-con, it seems like there is a general
ok from the community, if somebody would be willing to perform the
actual migration.
actually i could be this volunteer.
ad miller: there exist migration paths from both cvs and svn to git, so
svn would do no harm before we can switch to git :-)
about the structure:
i have written down some ideas on how an svn-repository could be
structured at http://puredata.info/Members/zmoelnig/pdcon07/SubVersion
basically the layout keeps the same, but with svn-specifics like
meta-directories "trunk", "tags" and "branches".
ideally (for me) the layout of "trunk" would be:
/trunk/pd/
/trunk/pd-devel/
/trunk/desiredata/
/trunk/externals/
/trunk/packages/
/trunk/scripts/
/trunk/doc/
differences to the current layout are:
- moved abstractions&extensions&xgui&Framestein into externals
- desiredata&pd-devel live beside "pd" (not in a separate branch)
- htdocs is deprecated (but could as well move into "doc")
- "supercollider" has moved into scripts (i am not sure about this, but
it seems to be the best place, since "bash_completion" is already in
there; "supercollider" is no external, it is rather a set of sc3-scripts
to ease the use of pd&sc together)
the layout of "tags" would be:
/tags/pd-0.40-4/
/tags/pd-0.41-1/
/tags/desiredata-0.39-1/
/tags/zexy-2.1/
/tags/pd-extended-0.39.2-rc1
...
(that is: a _very_ flat structure of "released" code)
the layout of "branches" would be almost the same as that of "tags" (but
"tagged" revisions should not be touched any more, whereas "branched"
revisions can be bug-fixed...)
both branches/tags should only be used for:
- releases (+maintenance)
- legacy (discontinued) projects
it is my believe that tags&branches should mainly be used for people who
want to checkout "working code" (!), rather than developers who want to
try something out without interfering with the existing code-base (trunk)
for quick experimental branches (e.g. if you want to implement a feature
but do not want to spill the trunk), i would suggest a 4th
meta-directory "experimental", like:
/experimental/pd-0.40-kiosk/
/experimental/pd-extended-0.39-newbuildsystem/
projects in "experimental" are not meant to be continued, but their
changes should go back into the main trunk (either by merging into the
original project or by living besides it)
in any case, these experimental branches should be deleted when
finished, in order to keep the directory-layour reasonably small.
comments are highly welcome

Hi again to all devs,
Is there any way to use copybytes to take a chunk out of an array? Say, to copy elements 0-10 of an array into another buffer, then concatenate elements 20-30 onto the end of it?
