Summary: CVS: dollarsign expansion for subpatch names broken
Initial Comment:
This is a bug in current CVS-HEAD: dollar sign
expansion in subpatch names doesn't work currently. a
subpatch named [pd $0-name] will be saved as [pd
0-name], a subpatch named [pd $1-name] is saved as [pd
1-name].
According to notes.txt this bug seems to be known: "pd
$1 bug ($1 is saved as it was evaluated, not as '$1')"
but it is such a nasty issue and can lead to broken
patches when using pd-HEAD, that I report it here so
everyone is aware of it.

is this still true? i cannot reproduce it.
an empty patch with just a [pd $0-name] in it, saves here
(0.40-0test05) as:
#N canvas 0 0 450 300 10;
#N canvas 0 0 450 300 \$0-name 0;
#X restore 114 164 pd \$0-name;
so it seems to be fixed. can you confirm this?

I was trying [counter] from cyclone, and apparently the

the help patch. Everything else seemed ok.

Pd freezes when it looses communication with audio card

changed the title to something more meaningful than "audio".
i fear this is a problem of the underlying system rather
than of pd (what happens to other applications when you
disconnect the audio card at runtime?)

Hi all,
since the SF patch tracker is down i post it here for now. It's
already fixed in the devel branch.
First, there's a bug in x_midi.c, preventing the output of the midi
status byte from the midirealtime object. Find the fixing diff below.
Second: Midi clock messages are also sent to midirealtime, although
there's also a midiclkin object (for midi status F8), which seems to
be unused. The respective inmidi_clk function is used nowhere in PD.
Is midiclkin supposed to be used one day?
greetings,
Thomas

i discovered that the same problem also happens with the new
"block_bang" feature.
the attached patch fixes this too (for convenience it also includes the
former patch.
btw, i noticed that when blockbanging a subpatch with [bang~] and you
turn audio off (with my patch applied), i get this error message:
"error: bang to block~ or on-state switch~ has no effect"

PS: i hope i can stop this patching soon...:-)

Summary: alternative names for [list] objects
Initial Comment:
this patch adds alternative names with space " "
changed to slash "/" for the group of [list]-objects:
[list append] == [list/append]
[list prepend] == [list/prepend]
[list trim] == [list/trim]
[list split] == [list/split]

I think this is a bad idea. If there is going to use the
namespace-style prefix, then the underlying library should
be formatted the same way. I don't think its useful to have
yet another special case for the list objects, which this
would be, especially when it does not add any new
functionality at all.
This could be achieved by compiling the list objects as a
libdir.

Summary: $@ and $# expansion (argc, argv)
Initial Comment:
the attached patch extends the $-expansion mechanism:
$# expands to the number of arguments; usable both as
A_DOLLAR (just "$#") and A_DOLLSYM ("$#-bla")
$@ expands to the entire list of arguments (e.g. [$@
$@( will expand [1 2 3( to [1 2 3 1 2 3(); this is only
usable as A_DOLLAR; i.e. [symbol $@-a( will always
expand to "$@-a"
why:
well, its a way to deal with dynamic length lists that
is still missing in pd (though 1st steps have been made
with [list])
caveats:
what is still missing is an expansion for the selector
of messages and objects (the selector of an object
would be the object's instantation name); would $$ be a
good name for this? (since $0 is already taken)

Yes! This is great!
As for the selector, $0 is not taken in message space, so I
think it makes sense there. Since message expansion
variables are already different than object arguments, I
think that won't be too confusing. Plus the $ variable
syntax comes from shell scripting, where $0 is basically the
selector of the message that is the command line arguments.
