hi all.
i would like to upgrade puredata.info to plone-2.1.4 (and hopfully zope-2.8) within the next few days.
of course there are many new cool features within the new plone (like live-search, (better) RSS feeds, security)
another main reason is, to be able to add a Captcha-mechanism to the "join", so we can open up the website again.
and of course, the longer we wait with upgrading the system, the harder it will become...
migration tests have been succesfull so far ;-)

Hi, I am not a web developer, but I would like to join the group of web developers by doing content stuff. I have two topics, I would like to work on: 1) documentation (a lot of ideas) 2) pd patch gallery/soundpark/video platform so maybe we can reserve some virtual space for that. marius.

I really like the soundpark/video idea a lot. It would be nice to see a centralized location to view/hear finished works made using Pd.

In my understanding a weblog is rather a personal output than a community tool (like forum). it could be good for announcements and rss feeds, but what I am thinking of with the soundpark is really an upload platform, with a register process, and feedback and discussion possibility to every item, maybe also a rating system like youtube, and then a weekly radio/web stream show with the newest or most interesting uploads. moderated and produced by anyone who wants to do that. maybe a rotating system of different moderators. maybe with special calls for works...
another community tool should be a jamming room. or just better promotion for the netpd patches.
There are tons of things to do, but hey this is open source community, I don't see who can do all that work (like implementing the irc chat on the frontpage, implementing already existing forums and make them interchangeable with the mailinglist(s) bringing the pd radio to the frontpage, including the mailinglist into the puredata-site...)
marius.

What do you think about the resent discussion in fx the 'pd blog' thread?

I share the same view on what a weblog is. The 'pd blog' thread deals with how different "Pd-parks" could be done, especially in relation to moderation/curating.
I think that if we take a look at the Freesound website, we could get some good ideas on how to share content. Maybe even partner up with them?

apart from that site looks awful, I think it is a good forum. I think with all that media forums existing, there soon will be a metamachine, collecting information from all the available forums and feeding it into one big machine, so in my opinion the place to upload pd related stuff should be the pd site, but every partnership is highly appreciated. other sharing content sites I looked at are http://youtube.com, http://fm4.orf.at/soundpark (that's an austrian radiostation...), http://www.blender.org/cms/Gallery.55.0.html, http://www.wings3d.com/gallery.php marius.

It sounds to me that we are all in agreement about what this basically should be. I think blog was mentioned only as an easy tool for managing the content. Plus the comment feature could work well in this context.

Terrorism is not an enemy. It cannot be defeated. It's a tactic. It's about as sensible to say we declare war on night attacks and expect we're going to win that war. We're not going to win the war on terrorism. - retired U.S. Army general, William Odom
Good luck! I look forward to the RSS component.

That sounds good.
I'm looking forward to see what can be done to it in relation to the resent talks about - curated example/showcase section, - rss-feed of member-site-update, - rss-feed of updates to specific wiki-pages (fx [1], [2], [3]), - simplifying content/wiki types and finally - graphical redesign.

why having 3 sites, why not call it http://puredata.info/gallery or http://puredata.info/plaza m.

Well, there just happen to be tree sites right now. I didn't start them. It's a consekvens of the having a wiki. I just mentioned them all to say that there is, and have been for long, i think, places on puredata.info where people can share patches, tunes, art and the like, if they want. And it is even fairly centralized, so an rss feed would only be a nice to have feature for those who don't want to check in once in a while.
