So the old mailing list archive URLs are broken, so all of the links to the mailing lists that google or whatever turn up are broken. Anyway we could get the old URLs working again? Broken links are always frustrating... It could probably be done with mod_rewrite rule.

i do not think that mod_rewrite can help us. the base-url has not changed but the individual files have been renamed!
what happened: a) i have finally migrated the old listman archives to mailman. mails used to be two or three times in the archives (because of re-building the archives) which took quite some disk-space on our servers. (the pd-list archive alone without any duplicates takes about 250MB)); furthermore there is a new search-engine that is really fast. so, for convenience reasons, the archives have been re-indexed.
b) i have received emails of subscribers who complained that their email-address is visible in plain-text on the archives. this i consider a real privacy problem. therefore a better email hiding algorithm is now used and i have (again) rebuilt the archives.
what we could do is direct the 404 to the search-engine of the archive. would this be ok ?

I think, this or a rewrite to the new main list archive page would be appropriate.
(BTW: Excuse my ignorance: Where is the new archive?)
Ciao

Urgh, ahem, well then a link to the main list archive page wouldn't be such as appropriate. ;)
Ciao

Yes, looks fine. I like simplicity. (Minor spelling correction: I think, the space at "... find !" should go away.)

Tough problem to solve, that will work well enough I think. I think we'll be better off in the end, once google catches on ;).

Especially as Google was just a helper because the old search was suboptimal. Regarding the new search, it would be great, if it was possible to set this up, so that the "List Archive" results are omited. Currently a search for e.g. "filter" gives this as first results:
1. And so on. Clicking one leads to a long list of messages. The actually interesting messages on filters are way below. I would suggest to try to not search the overview pages at all, if this is possible.
