If you aren't sick of them yet, I've got an archive request:
- would it be possible to search-and-replace on pure-data.org in all the list archives and replace with puredata.org?
Something like:
sed -i.bak -e 's/pure-data.org/puredata.org/g' pd-list.mbox
and for pd-ot.mbox, pd-announce.mbox, and pd-dev.mbox

somehow a good idea, somehow not (it somehow reminds me of the ministry of truth: correcting the archives to the new reality)
but of course i could do it...

You mean online? No, please.
It's an *archive*, not a collection of valid documentation that should be updated regularily.
In 2001 pd.info was pd.org and not run by IEM. Changing this to pd.info would be wrong information.

I am all for leaving history intact, but I really think that this is almost purely a technical issue, though it does feel strange to correct archives. I think replacing pure-data.org with puredata.org is such a minor change, yet will provide a relatively large benefit, links in the archive will work again, so I think its worth it. Also, it wouldn't be too hard to only make the change to emails later than the IEM site launch, keeping historical info intact. But I can also understand wanting to keep the archive "pure".

pure-data.org is an atrocious nightmare now, so I second Hans' suggestion. Dictionaries and technical references are updated regularly. The alternative, a hosts file or local DNS entry pointing pure-data.org to 193.170.191.182 (puredata.org) fails.
I'd like this question thrown open to the whole pd list community, but I'll leave that up to Hans.
Unless/until puredata.org/plone gets polling implemented, I've set up a voting POLL here: http://tet.hopto.org.master.com/texis/master/search http://tet.hopto.org.master.com/texis/master/search http://tet.hopto.org.master.com/texis/master/search

true, but i think frank has pointed out, that the archives are archives and not dictionaries or technical references.
several email-addresses found in the archives (a fact that could be discussed separately) are dead by now. a lot of links (not only pure-data.org) are dead by now. several (virtual) posters do not exist any more.
so what is the difference
as for hans' idea to only change links after the iem-launch of pure-data.org, i don't really understand it. references/links to the "old" pure-data.org will never work again (most probably), *but* following them will eventually lead to some DNS-grabber's homepage: what does it tell us ?
and just a sidemark: i'd love to see the postings in the archive talking about "hey, http://puredata.org does not work any more -> well, the puredata.org domain has been grabbed, the new one is http://puredata.org"
Unless/until puredata.org/plone gets polling implemented, I've set up a voting POLL here:
which one, should i use: this ?
this ?
or that ?

I already suggested that the mailing list archive could be imported into Plone. A few months ago I started to adapt a mailing list archiving "product" for Plone. It would be easier to search through the archive, and there could be a filter option to remap strings like emails and urls, or to add those new strings next to the old ones. Does it sound like a good idea? -- Marc

It would be great to have a forum interface to the lists. But I think my changing the URL idea got nixed.
