Did you try loading it in a fresh window? I can't get it to load on Windows (Mozilla Firefox and IE) or MacOS X (Camino, IE, or Safari). I've tried it from three separate networks also.
And http://puredata.info gives me a proxy error. Perhaps these two things are related.

i had put some http/ram accelerators into the pure-data.org site hoping to increase performance - while it had many hits it didn't manage the redirect to http://pure-data.iem.at/about/ correctly
i have removed the accelerators and it works now. sorry for any inconvenience
And http://puredata.info gives me a proxy error. Perhaps these two things are related.
no, not at all. pure-data.info is a completely different host (right now pure-data.iem.at runs on the same server like the iem-homepage). we have decided to give the pd-website a host of its own (to reduce load in the iem-webserver) now we are currently struggling to migrate the database from the old host to the new host (and upgrading both zope and plone - and the whole system) so: pure-data.iem.at (193.170.191.181) is a virtual host at http://iem.at puredata.info (193.170.191.182) is on a dedicated server, but not set up correctly (yet) - this is why you get the proxy error; in reality it is a virtual host on this machine pure-data.info is hans's backup that is pointing to 193.170.191.182, but is not handled correctly by the virtual-host directive - that is why you see a small "APACHE"-site

Ok, good to know.

Actually, I have pure-data.info set up on my nameservers to go to my server, which then redirects it to pure-data.iem.at. I guess IEM has pure-data.info set up on their nameservers, so only internally is it directed to 193.170.191.182.
This is my redirect in apache:
<VirtualHost *:80> ServerName www.pure-data.info ServerAlias pure-data.info ServerAdmin webmaster@pure-data.info
Redirect / http://pure-data.iem.at/
</VirtualHost>

absolutely right. i have set up both "pure-data.info" and "puredata.info" (which where identical) at our nameserver before wini had registered one of them; and i hadn't yet removed the pure-data.info.

Hello,
Migrating PD
I have tried to migrate PD-Site:
There is some problem to new Zope 2-7-0 + CMF-1.4.4 + Plone 2.0.2:
- Plone does not work because Plone1.0.3 has other templates....
- CMFWiki is not working at all
Second approach zope 2.6.4 + CMF-1.3.3 + Plone 1.0.5
Site works: please test also !!! -> http://test.puredata.info/ (data one week old just for testing)
-except edit on CMFWiki
So on old plone CMFWiki produrct can be installed but not working as it should and on new zope cmfwiki is not working at all and also Ploneskin is to be migrated,
Solutions:
a) I think we should first migrate all CMFWiki to ZWiki
b) If we want the new Plone2:
- which I find more powerful and
- Zope 2.7 which has more performance
- and also runs completly under the user zoper, where I can give you the login, so you can Install any Product you want.
we should set up a new plone and just fill in the
logo and make a new design... if somebody want, which is much more easier with plone2.0.x
What should I do ? only a or a than b)
mfg winfried
PS: There is a skinswitcher at plone2.0 which can switch skins by domain.
Any domain mapped on puredata.info whould relsoved so that the domainname stays if just somebody tells us to do so ?

First off, thanks Winfried for doing all of this work, it can be annoying and thankless.
Only a couple things actually need a wiki. I am guessing that a lot of the stuff in the old pd wiki could be migrated to a plone-style page, or is outdated and no longer necessary. As for the current site, the only wiki that I think is still used is the FAQ, but its just one page, so it should be easy to migrate to a ZWiki.
If you are willing to do the work, I think Plone2 sounds a lot nicer, so I would vote a) then b). I tested test.puredata.info and its quite a bit faster. Nice. The FAQ is of course broken, but otherwise, I couldn't see anything wrong.

Is it behind a caching proxy? If not it's easy to setup with Apache. The Zope cache can be ajusted too. Also there's a Zope products called SpeedPack that helps a lot.

I'd also vote for a and b. We don't use a custom design for Plone 1 currently, just the default one, so migrating that part is very easy: Just use the Plone 2 default skin for now. AFAIK there already has been some work done on a Plone 2 theme for Pd.org/.info
I also vote for ditching the current logo, which I don't like at all. :(
Regarding the Wiki pages: I would still like to see some kind of Wiki on pd.info, but I don't care which one it is technically. Is there a way to search for CMFWiki pages, so it will be easier to convert them?
One thing we should work on when migrating is the old forum issue. There should be a real forum, which I tried to add to the old site more than once, but it always failed with some error message or it wasn't visible to non-admins.
So we should get some kind of direct big link to a forum, where users can discuss problems like they now do on the "about" page...
And the last thing we could think about changing right away is the starting page. I'd really prefer the news page being the start page. Starting pages need to change often, otherwise users go away. So I'd suggest changing the redirect to "news".
Unfortunatly I won't be able to contribute much next week because of the Montevideo workshop.

Idem.

I'm the one who installed the logo. I asked pat@11h11.com to create "something", and he did it real quick. Although I think it "did the job", I don't really like it either, mostly because it's too big and doesn't work with the default skin. There should be a new skin, it's not that difficult now with Plone 2.

There's a CMFWiki->ZWiki migration script distributed with ZWiki.

CMFBoard is good.

It's because the discussion tool was on by default. That's wrong.

I agree.
I can help, I'm getting used to Plone2.

yeah, if you know css you can do pretty much everything you want :)
regarding a design, i promised to contribute one last year, i just didn't find time to do that yet - i just have a lot of "real paper"-sketches (which i could scan if someone still wants me to) - basically i tried to reuse the pd ui, and make it a bit more broken (in a good non-ugly way ;)) - it wouldn't be to hard to create.
CMFBoard is good.
as some of you may know, i'm one of the guys that contributed heavily on Plone 2 (even back then when it was 1.1) so i hope i know what i'm saying ;) this is a personal opinion but cmfboard is really really *really* bad. it broke stuff (whole portals without the ability to fix it easily, actually i don't know if you could fix it anyway), it doesn't integrate itself into the ui and it's overall architecture is a pure mess. oh yeah and it doesn't scale. however, there is just one alternative which isn't 100% finished yet: ploneboard - there isn't a release yet, and you can't install it via the plone interface, otherwise some entrys will produce errors (not ploneboards fault, the code of the quickinstaller isn't perfect). i can probably help setting it up if it's needed.

i can help to, but my time is limited, sorry...

Cloning the PD look was my intention when I asked patrick for the logo. It shoud be easy to create a pd look, with everything in b&w...
this is a personal opinion but cmfboard is really really *really* bad.
Why is it so popular then? Because of all the bells and whistles?

I grabbed a CVS snapshot, and it works very well. I was able to install it with quickinstaller without problems. It's simple enough, but I'm not sure it's necessary to see the sender's pictures in the message boxes. I guess it could be customized (and internationalized). The code seems well written (with unit tests).
I was thinking: an interesting feature for the next site would be to integrate the mailing list archives, using the MailBoxer product.

because it's the only thing that is officially availabe and "compatible" with plone 2 (i don't think so :P)

and you can answer in published boards with different users? seems like someone fixed quickinstaller or added a workaround for ploneboard/archetypes?

i agree, if there isn't one set it doesn't make much sense for a site where almost noone will have one to display a generic one.

it is very well written actually :) the markup could be better but thats about it.

people are working on that, but they're not using mailboxer i think ... iirc someone is writing such a thing from scratch, trying to do it in a sane way ;)

hello,
cmfforum...
because it's the only thing that is officially availabe and "compatible" with plone 2 (i don't think so :P)
I think cmfforum is just not so used, since all documents on the plone site is commentable, so there the whole site is like a forum ... ;-)
But of course we have to make some usage rules how to add documents so there are deticated forum like types.
My way doing likethis is making an own type like news which is also a folder and can hold secondary material.
We are working now on a PDPatch Product for our Archive project, which I can contribute, if we changed to plone 2.0.3 (working with the pd plugin iArs).
Also planed is to get the pd external database to the serever as Postgress and make a Plone Product which uses the database records like Documents. (SQL-Storagetype) but ....
.. all this takes time...
I guess it could be customized (and internationalized). The code seems well written (with unit tests).
This is a question we should talk, since there is the PlaceLess Translation Product, but how to get an i18n content ... I think I should switch python installation and zope to utf-8, but I dont konow to much about.. and i18n Archetypes are not very well working now ;-(
Anyway my schedule, since I didnt get it finished today and i am off next week (cmmr 2004 conference), I can continue on 3.June. Since there our new IEM-Server ist also working, so I and Hannes will make the big switch the weekend until 12 June. We have to freeze the old site for these days so I can migrate all the data. Afterwards I will mail you a documentation about the setup and how to handle this.
BTW. We installed Zope 2.7 now with ZEO-Server and two clients with load balancing using pound, The big thing is then to add squid over icp port...

Maybe not. I get the same proxy error with the info domain, but pure-data.iem.at works just fine:

This is all without proxy. The saved file is what I expected. There probably is something wrong in either your network or in the part of the web you live in. ;(
