Pd-extended is listed first on that page, since a lot more people download pd-extended from that page than pd-vanilla (for the last two releases of each, it's ~70k for PdE and ~24k for PdV). Plus since Pd- extended includes all the work of the community, it makes sense that it would be the primary download on the community site.
i am not saying it shouldn't be listed prominently. however: when i look at that page (with a resolution of 1024x768 which i assume can be considered as "standard"), i basically _only_ see Pd-extended (i know that scrolling is simple, but i am talking about first impressions here)
even though pd-extended might prove more worthy for most of the users, i also think that your statistics are biased because most people will have the feeling that there is _only_ pd-extended (and all the rest is for the weird).
this would probably be less of a problem if pd-ext would be more uptodate in terms of the core components.
The only thing holding back the next release is hours of work. The process would go faster if there are more people contributing :)
