i have put a page online that should describe the netiquette of the pd-related lists (or my views, how they could look like)
https://puredata.info/community/lists/netiquette/
however, since i am only an individual, i might be wrong or mistaken in the one or other issue. if you could have a look at it and feel an urge to express that they are ok or what should be changed how or what i have forgotton, please feel free to do so.
if (or as soon as) this netiquette is accepted, i would then point the general listinfo-pages and the new-subscriber welcome-mails to this page.

I'd say, as we're an english list, directing users directly to: http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html would be better in the quoting department.
There are some spelling errors, maybe a native speaker can look over this, as I would surly overlook some.
Maybe we should also try to explain pd-patch attachments? Sometimes they are inside the mail, which is annoying, as you have to copypaste the relevant parts. However I don't know, which mail software is responsible for this. Mutt seems to get it right anyway.
Also some remarks about the different pd-lists would be good. I think it's a bit annoying if there are too technical, development topics on the main pd-list. Everything which involves source code should go to pd-dev. Maybe then we also could promote pd-ot a bit for questions like: "Which graphics card is the best?" or "No sound on Linux".
Other than that, I think it's a very good text, but I think, we have a similar view on netiquette anyway, so lets hope for more comments. ;)

oops ... ;)
Using PD involve dealing with hardware, so those examples are not very OT. I think that only a moderator could classify messages as OT, because users can't always decide and usually don't care. -- Marc
netiquette for the pd-lists
-???
I think generally the people(s) occupying the PD-list(s) are a decent lot, so the problem(s) go beyond me at this moment..

We better fix those spelling errors quick! Surely we don't want Frank to become surly! ;-)
(see, there is some benefit to English's whacked spelling: unintended humor!)

Something else for the netiquette text:
Please post your messages in plain text format and avoid HTML formatted mail. Many subscribers read their mail with a text based mailing software, which displays HTML directly. Not only is sending HTML mail considered unfriendly, you also risk getting ignored by these users. And it might be, that one of them is the only one who knows the answer to your question. Get it? So be nice and don't sent HTML, send plain text, all will be well.
