Could i have some feedback from people's experiences working with midi interfaces with pd&linux. Im working with a laptop so im particularly interested in USB or PCMCIA kind of stuff. Any suggestions on MIDI control surfaces?

Yep, I use the old faithful Peavey PC1600x, which retails in the UK @ ca. 350 GBP. I had some difficulty obtaining one here (had to contact their international sales HQ!).
It works very well, 16 sliders with potentially 12-bit resolution, 16 buttons, footswitch + pedal jacks, very programmable. Don't know 'bout your MIDI interface though, sorry.

Don't know how Pd would handle it (or rather how one would handle it in Pd!), but AFAIK the PC1600x can send data determined by fader position as part of a 'MIDI string'. The format of the data can be adjusted from single byte (i.e. 0-127 as in most MIDI messages), up to 4 bytes, in a variety of formats (I think the fader ADCs are themselves 12-bit resolution, but maybe it's possible to get increased resolution from the data wheel). I don't really know the ins and outs coz I haven't tried it yet!

Apologies, my last claims were untrue!
This from the Peavey website:
'The PC 1600x uses 8-bit A/D converters for its faders which supply 256 discreet steps for parameter adjustment. This covers most situations, but sometimes you must edit larger ranges (e.g. 0 - 1000), and each movement of the fader results in a value change larger than 1. In these cases, program the Data Wheel link to "Last Fader" in the preset you're using. Use the fader to get the parameter value close to where you need it, then use the Data Wheel to fine tune the value from there.'
So, only 8-bit resolution on the faders, but one can send larger values and 'fine control' them using the wheel.

Dear All,
I used the F8 of midisolutions midinterface with a collection of fantastic & affordable sensors from the Spanish company Cebek. (website in Spanglish) http://www.cebek.com/cebek/indice.htm The F8 has 8 CV-to-midi inputs and can be Gates-programmed. It is expensive to bring it to this side of the Atlantic. The cebek sensors are just circuits of different kinds with a low CV output signal (ie: activates a 'rele') Quoting Cebek's example:'Darkness sensor with relay output and supplied by 230 V. A.C. This module offer the same characteristics than the I-42 module, except the voltage. Probe is included. Power Supply: 230 or 115 V. A.C. / 60 mA. - Max. load output: 5 A.'
IŽve found it as a nice alternative for those who can not afford the iCube system or simply enjoy developping they own sensors and ideas. PureData suits perfect.
Cheaper than the F8 you have the doepfer German family of CVtoMidi converters. The A102 I think.CanŽt remember. http://www.doepfer.com/
