McGILL UNIVERSITY - FACULTY OF MUSIC NEW ACADEMIC POSITION IN MUSIC TECHNOLOGY
The Department of Theory, Faculty of Music, McGill University, is opening a 3-year position in Music Technology at the rank of Assistant Professor (Special Category), which may be extended to a tenure-track position. The Department invites immediate applications from researchers with a background in music and computer science/engineering. The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing development and expansion of a Ph.D. program in this field and also participate in the newly created Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT). This centre is dedicated to innovative research in music technology and sound recording, with members drawn from the Faculties of Engineering, Medicine, and Science, as well as from the Faculty of Music.
The new professor will be part of the Music Technology Area that offers both undergraduate (B. Mus.) and graduate degrees (M.A., and Ph.D.) in this topic. Applicants should hold a Ph.D., but those close to completion are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants whose research specialization is in (a) high-level musical control of sound synthesis, (b) design of input devices for musical interaction, (c) sound analysis and synthesis, (d) human-computer interaction, (e) musical acoustics, and (f) software design for integrated musical environments.
An active research profile is required that will complement the existing research directions on audio analysis and synthesis, interactive performance systems, and distributed digital music libraries. Teaching duties will entail the teaching of undergraduate courses and graduate seminars, and the supervision of graduate students in Music Technology.
