hi, i also would like to know about the problems or advantages of different distributions. speaking for myself i use a suse 7.2 (with 2.4.4 kernel) which are 7 CDs of software. it was easy to install, i didn't have problems to compile Pd only gem used another glut-library (which was on the CD, but not installed by default). and there are alsa 0.5-drivers for my (auto-detected and configured) soundblaster-card. i don't know about installing drivers for other cards (RME for example). but I heard, Guenter is working on an own "multimedia/sound-distribution"(?). marius.

I use wget for all my downloads. It's included in all linux distributions that are not messed up and there is a windows version at http://space.tin.it/computer/hherold as well. bye,
BTW, speaking of not messed up distros. Can someone tell me which one isn't messed up? My RH7 is driving me crazy lately. I would like to upgrade to something less messed up. I've had only experience with RH. How easy is it to switch to say, debian.
thanks,
