hallo
when guis are overllapping each other, the overlapped area is assigned to most bottom gui. since this area visually is part of the most top gui, one would expect a different behaviour. of course the guis are not meant to be overlapped, but with [tgl]s you could do a lot of funny things, if they'd behave as expected.

not necessarily. guis are overlapped in order of creation only. if you
want to change the order, do a delete+undo, and the restored object will
be on top of all others, as it is then the newest one.
so far I know there is no command to control the "topness" or "botomness"
of guis (not like in max/msp).
in case you work with guis, you might find this useful:

of course they are overlapped in creation order. but the 'shared' area in (terms of mouse-sensitivity) is assigned to the gui at the most bottom, not the most top, as one normally would expect. if you click into the overlapped area, the object at the most bottom changes.
i found another way to do what i wanted, so it isn't a problem for me anymore. :-)

thanks for the hint, i certainly will have a look, but i intend to create some new kinds of guis using the normal iem-guis.
à propos 'shameless self-publicity': you still are friendly invited to join netpd, if you like.. ;-)

sorry, i thought you were speaking about an external you've done. this gui-edit patch is very usefull. sometimes it is even helpfull, when settings are -not- updated after changing the target. also the the 'send all'-option is very cool. since it is built in pd, it is very easy to modify it to make some tasks much easier, like setting the send-symbols of a row of sliders to '1-blah'...........'16-blah'. very cool!

I'm not a programmer, so I can't do externals. yes, I put the send-all
there specifically for cases where mass-production might be necessary.
did you meant about changing the abstraction itself? if you do it I would
like to hear about it, just to keep updated. all the commands you make
there can also be sent as messages to the inlet of the abstraction (and
also come out as well). you can also make your own mass-prod script and
connect it to the abstraction, without opening the graphical abstraction.
it would be even cooler if it would be possible to query the current
parameters of the objects, but that will come sometime.
