I've looked around and there is some code out there. Looks like the MIDI In which is what I mostly need definitely needs some electronic parts in order to be working.
There is some code that I will test but I'm still note sure if it will conflict with the standard firmata.
I guess I'll get the parts and start testing with the code that I found.

Hi, is not necessary...you can googling a lot of midi projets with arduino...you could use a 5 pins midi connector...but i think yes...if you can asign properly data and pins...Cheap and easy... Can the additional software simply be added to the firmata or is it necessary to edit the firmata for doing this.
Does the Arduino need extra parts like opto-couplers? Or is that stuff already on the board? (I'm using a Duemilanove with Ubuntu)
I would appreciate if anybody could point me in a direction where I could find some working MIDI software that can be added to the firmata.
