If it can be of any help for someone willing to debug this, it seems to be a problem related to the initialization of the graphics because, once PD starts correctly everything works fine (in my case, at least). I also had problems opening and closing subpatches with the "vis" message. I used that with the [key*] objects but it caused similar problems: windows not closing properly, ending empty but still open and impossible to close.

I had the same problem. It appears to be a random bug in my case, that is, if I restarted Pure Data few times on the same patch, sooner or later the patch would show completely. I never did debugging.

Hi,
this is the second time it happens. I had a very nice patch, that was
my
final thing for the moment, and one day when i opend it i got a
surprise: I
can't see half of the objects and chords. There are no errors and the objects seem to still work (if you click
on the
places where the "bangs" are supposed to be, they do what they should
do),
just i can't see them. If i change the font some object reappears, but if i save the file
with the
new fonts and then reopen it again, i am back to the beginning.
Anybody knows what's happening?

Nothing to check. What I meant is that I used to start PD with
pd -open my-main-patch.pd
and when I had a problem similar to your, I just shut down PD, cross fingers and re-launch it. Most of the time it worked in few attempts. Not exactly something you would find in Knuth's book but it worked if you just wanted to make music.
Your patches are not lost. Try closing subpatches (if any) with a text editor or try another version of PD. Try also removing GUI subpatches (if possible) from the main patch.
