This is a good idea, I would suggest using a public google doc or pirate pad and we can add the link to the top of the issue. Please *do not* flood the Github discussion with constant posts. If/when a doc is created, send me the link so we can all stay on the same (virtual) page.

I thought it was a Joke.
Do we put the modifided “pd-gui.tcl” along with the patch t-metrics?
The tcl only works with 0.47.1 & covers the first 8 10 12 font sizes.
Is that the idea?

I think the quotation is just for the name of the font.

Thanks for creating the page. I added screenshots of t-metrics.pd for Ubuntu 16.04.
I wondered: What is the point of putting scaled images there? It's really hard to use those for comparisons.
I will add screenshots for Windows 10 tomorrow.

Added t-metrics.pd screenshots for Windows 10. Boxes sizes are consistent through all tests, it seems.
I remember that I went nuts last time when I tried to fiddle with font metrics trying to get consistent box sizes between Windows and Ubuntu. I only realize now that I wasn't using the same font on both sides. DUH!! Things are a bit easier once the same font is used.

Yes, I actually saw it, but there was some concern about the chance of another tcl/tk extensions getting included into Pd.

No, sorry. There isn't something I can contribute, I just wondered. Anyway, good you figured out a way that technically works.

i already mentioned this in [42], but i still fail to see what is wrong with properly installing the font.
if there is an installer (and thanks to roman, Pd now (also) comes as a nice NSIS-based installer), this can easily be automated: installers are quite good at installing things (including fonts). otoh, writing custom code to work around tried and tested solutions, sounds a bit errorprone to me.

I agree with you that the installer can handle the issue more correctly.
But
In my case (probably other users too) I never use the installer, I use the zip which just run. No registry keys no nothing. Also to switch from PCs, versions, various tests & and more.
But I can perfectly live if the issue is handled only with the installer.

The twapi solution is really straigth-forward. It will work yes or yes.
It adds around 1.2MB to the app.
600 for the fonts & 600 for the twapi.

Thanks for expressing your opinion. Personally, I do not have a strong preference for one way or the other. However, if installing fonts through installer has a higher likeliness of being adopted, I'll be happy to look into that.
