I CC'ed the Pd list to keep everyone up to date.
Yeah, the wheels have started in NYC too, both in terms of space,
people and money lined up. But there is no need for a competition.
We should just figure out which should happen first.
One thing that might be appealling about doing it in NYC in June 07
is that the NIME conference will happen in NYC June 7-10, 2007, so it
could be right before or after, and have some shared events. But
beyond that, I guess Montreal has dibs.

Hello there Hans-Christoph and all,
The wheels are in fact in motion for the PD Conference. We plan on holding it in September 2007. I have set aside a bulk of time this summer and fall to devote to the development of the PD conference in Montreal. A few key organizations have already expressed interest in taking part in the event including La fondation Daniel Langlois artengine and Videograph. La fondation Daniel Langlois is willing to take care of travel and accommodation expenses for Miller. I also believe that Miller had said he was wanting to propose a project to this organization(?). Contact has also been made with Dr. Fuginawa from the music department at the University of McGill who would act as a supporter for us from the academic side.
Within the next few weeks I will be able to get a clearer idea of the resources and venues we will have at our disposal. With high caliber new media arts organizations such as La SAT and Hexagram and the several artist run centres whom all have a vested interest in supporting PureData initiatives I am positive our resources and partnerships will be fruitful.
We will be meeting this weekend for PD MTL (our monthly user group gathering) where planning for the conference will occur.
Please stand by for exciting updates.
Have a good one gentlemen!

To do PdConf07, the wheels need to start rolling now. I don't

for Summer

then we
should work this out now.
I need to know what resources do you expect to get. Our meeting
about
Pd~conf MTL will happen anyway, so that I can know how serious
MTL can be
about the idea. Then we can discuss about where it's more worth
having
Pd~conf for this time.
I can get the university conference center and 9-screen multi- channel "Hall of Fame" room for free, plus janitorial services. If its in summer,
then we can use the new dorms to house people at US$30/night. I think I can
get US$5k from the school, plus there is another bigger grant in the works..hc

This information was not meant to be disclosed, at least, not at this moment. I had forwarded your private mail to several people, but they were all people who had expressed interest in organising pd~conf, and there weren't many of them. It's not like posting on pd-list.

Sorry, I didn't realize that was touchy content. I'll try to
restrain myself in the future.
I think that the Pd~conf organization should be as open as possible.
I think that backroom deals should be avoided as much as possible
(ideally completely, but...). If Pd~conf is about the Pd community,
then the Pd community should be part of the organization process.
The only thing that I can currently see as needed to be kept closed
is the dealings with grant organizations because they are so political.
The art world is basically all backroom deals and nepotism in the
worst way, and the academic world is often that way too. Granting
bodies are completely part of this system of corruption. I think
that this only hinders the progress of knowledge and art, so I hope
to circumscribe it as much as possible.

OTOH, no-one wrote a full-page warning either... and we didn't make you sign a NDA ;-)

That's the information that we didn't want to diffuse so much, especially until it is 100% confirmed.

Propagating that kind of idea is yet one more hurdle to those art organisations who try to be fair?

Circumscribe and/or circumvent? =)
