It's so that people download it and watch it. Shocking, eh?

it doesn't work on my browser (firefox/osx), or in quicktime - only plays in VLC, and VLC complains about a missing avi header.
also it's tricky to see exactly what's going on.

sorry, in case this isn't related to your question, but the movie shows how to record a keyboard macro, that is played back afterwards ( though in the showed example, the same could be reached with typing 'ctrl-d'). anyway, i think, matju wanted to announce this new feature of desiredata.

I don't see nothing. I watched it 3 times, but only got one single white pixel... but now I tried it on my linux machine and ... ola! thanks for the hint! marius.

If you play it in VLC Video Lan you might be able to watch it.
Slowing the playback speed makes it easier to understand, though it's
an otherwise very nicely made demonstration. I wonder what program is
used to (read and) display the keys hit?

This is something I made using Tk for the purpose of helping Chun make demonstration videos as well as his upcoming talk at PdConvention2007: «Keyboard-Only Interface for PureData». Then Chun added support for arrows and mouse.
It's not a separate application. Go in the help menu («Hjælp»). There is an item called «Virtual Keyboard» or in Dansk mode «{{keyboard_view}}». The latter notation (double braces) indicates that you have not translated that word to Dansk. Edit locale/dansk.tcl and add a line like:
say keyboard_view "Virtual Keyboard"
but with danish text within quotes.

This is possible to do with Pd already, no Tcl needed :D

This is nice, but you're missing the point. We have macros so that we can reproduce keyboard and mouse sequences. This can be useful for some things for which we can't just use Ctrl+d and especially to create automated tests for user interface.
Chun also added a [clipboard] class so that you can pick up the results of Ctrl+c without saving to disk nor using [textfile]. This is also because of automated tests for user interface.

You can do that in Pd also, keyboard and mouse sequences all generate
Pd messages which you can capture using [tot]. You could send it to
a pd process to reproduce. If my website was working you could see
more on that here:

[clipboard] sounds nice.

Terrorism is not an enemy. It cannot be defeated. It's a tactic.
It's about as sensible to say we declare war on night attacks and
expect we're going to win that war. We're not going to win the war
on terrorism. - retired U.S. Army general, William Odom

What kind of thing are you doing with your macro feature?
