Hi,
my attempts to work with [midifile] didn't work, as something in the files is saved wrong, and all my midi-related programs (sibelius, reason, logic,...) display a much slower file than the one I saved. Also, midifile only takes integers as midipitches, which is rather limiting.
I wanted to send midi directly from Pd to any of the other said programs. Can anyone recommend a jack-kind of software for midi?
Thanks,
Joao

that's a limitation of MIDI. if you want to fly, you probably should grow wings.

well, jack can route MIDI as well...(and ALSA does MIDI-routing as well)
on w32, you could try midiyoke.

...and on OS X use the build-in IAC (inter application communication?) bus which you have to enable in the Audio-MIDI-Setup.app (the subject of this thread says windows, so this is just for the archive.)
I'm using it to connect ableton live to a small translator patch on one computer which converts the MIDI to OSC then on a second machine i receive these to do some audiovisual stuff. I can't say anything about the latency yet - if you have better ideas how to do this please speak up. Ableton live MIDI -> IAC -> Pd patch to OSC -> ethernet -> Pd Patch on another machine.

Hubi's MIDI Loopback, if it still exists.

some notation programs can play midi quarter tones, but turns out it's with pitch bend. I though they allowed for fractional values, they're not as advanced as Pd

the problem is that I don't know any midi notation program in linux that works. the ones I tried from dave philip's page were unreliable - or something didn't work, but for some reason windows programs work more often with me than linux ones.

thanks
There's jack for windows[1]... I'd like to see that working (maybe Ill give a go here)

Jack works good here on vista, but there is no MIDI, or I didn't find it.
Isn't jack midi interface for ALSA only?

Hmm, let's not forget Jack-MIDI... there are few applications supporting it, Ardour and Denemo (notation editor! http://www.denemo.org) are two of them

Hi
We are connecting buzz tracker and pd on windows vista, with jack for audio signal and midiyoke for midi and it's working fine.
