I'd love to be able to read in Serial (and for that matter Parallel) port values from Pd. From scanning the archives, it seems like comport is the method of choice. I am on WinXP and do not have an easy way to compile comport to get a DLL, but I am only finding source online. Does anybody have a comport.dll they would be willing to share?
Also, I see references to HID objects and I am wondering what external has them, if I could use those objects to read the serial and parallel ports, and if there are precompiled versions for Win32 out there.
Thanks,
-John

[comport] is included in the Pd-extended installer:

[hid] for Windows is in progress. I was hoping to have it done in
December, but I have been thwarted by the Windows HID API. Windows
locks the mouse and keyboard so Pd cannot get the data. I've been
trying to find a good solution to get around that, it looks like the
only way is to make a separate DirectInput object.

From what I can see, the Pd-extended installer you sent is BETA and the stable release does not include comport. I am looking at installing these in a computer lab for classroom use. Would you recommend I use the BETA release or that I use the stable release and try to copy comport.dll into that? I am more concerned about stability than cutting-edge features. My experience in working with students of mixed technical abilities that without good stability they quickly get frustrated and give up. I'm game to use the BETA releases but I am concerned by your disclaimers on the page.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks,

Most of Pd is quite beta, a lot is still alpha, and the extended installers are up to Release Candidate 6 (RC6) with RC7 probably going to be the release version (coming soon). Pd-extended was commissioned by two Universities with the intention of installing it onto lab computers, so my aim in making it is making the most stable version. So I think its your best bet. The repsonse on this list has been so far pretty good.
Please do report back with any issues so that they can be fixed in future releases.
