Can anyone recommend a USB audio IO device that would work nice with PD and a WINXP laptop ?
How many analogue/digital inputs/outputs ? which price range ?
if you need more than 4 inputs/outputs, USB-1.0 will be a bit weak, but there are not many USB-2.0 interfaces (and is your PC USB-2.0 ?) -- maybe the Edirol UA-1000 is the only one now.
If 2~4 inputs/outputs are sufficient, I heard about positive PC users of M- Audio USB products (like the USB Quattro, for example) check out, depending on the inputs/outputs you need : http://www.m-audio.com/products/m-audio/USBaudio.php
Anyway, PCMCIA cards (Digigram VXPocket, RME Hammerfall CardBus, Echo Mia/Gina/Layla laptop versions, ...) are truly better (but more expensive)
There are some good IEEE1394 interfaces like the MOTU 828mkII or the M-Audio Firewire 410, too ...
It took me over 4 months to choose a sound card ! :)
