libmpeg2-4 is showing up on the 'deborphan' list, meaning no other
packages are using that package. Does Pd/Gem/whatever still need it?

no (though i actually thought of including it for a while); the same goes for libglut3
i guess in the future i will rather say, if one of my libs indeed depend on one of these packages (or silently fix my code)
