Hallo,
I see, that Guenther is checking in 0.37 into CVS, so I'm giving it a try (Linux). I've several questions regarding the changed audio/midi subsystem.
I built pd with "--enable-alsa" and "--enable-jack" still, but the startup options "-alsa" and "-jack" don't work anymore.
I see that portaudio is used while compiling with these defines: "-DUSEAPI_PORTAUDIO -DPA_USE_OSS ... -DUSEAPI_OSS"
Those can not be changes with configure-options, it seems. I then ./configured in portaudio to use jack and Alsa, but it wouldn't compile. Do I have too old a jack version? Even with ALSA only I get several errors, but only in the "tests" which I uncommented in the portaudio-makefile then.
Now Pd gives errors while linking, even if I use "-DUSEAPI_PORTAUDIO -DPA_USE_ALSA ... -DUSEAPI_ALSA".
So: Does anyone here know, how I can Pd 0.37 get to use ALSA or even JACK? OSS-emulation in ALSA does not work correctly on my laptop with a USB-audio device.
Would (or will) it be possible to compile with both PA_ALSA and PA_JACK and can I change at runtime, which one to use?
Or will the old Alsa (or Jack) work again?

Hi,
I am trying to give a general answer. Until now there are millers 0.37test4 sources in CVS only. The next step will be the merge. I am going to add jack support, at the same time there will be some updates for configure, I have to figure out why alsa doesn't work.
I am not going to do something on the portaudio side yet, I hope this will be solved on its own sooner or later.
Greetings,
Guenter

This would be wonderful.

I guess, jack in PA is still very experimental, but then I'd expect ALSA in PA to be more stable. Maybe not yet. I might take a look into the ALSA side of PA, if I find some time (i.e. not next week)
