Hey I think this was noted as a problem; namely the deb wants libs flac7 and quicktime0. Gutsy doesn't have them (it has lqt1 and lf8) and it annoys aptitude to use "dpkg -i --ignore-dependency=$NOGOOD"
to fix apt from complaining I went into /var/lib/dkpg/status and found the pd-extended entry and changed the relevant "depends: " to the gutsy versions. More info here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-187293.html
hope this helps, sorry if it's a repost

pdp_ieee1394 is based on Quicktime, so it's Mac OS X only. pdp_v4l
should handle firewire on GNU/Linux.

Actually, that reminds me, I would like to have the Pd-extended
package use a directory for people to install their own externals.
On Mac OS X, it's /Library/Pd following those conventions. I am
thinking that /usr/local/lib/pd/ should be the user-installed stuff,
with everything going in there (i.e. help patches, binaries, and .pd
files). Then the .deb should install into /usr/lib. This means it
would conflict with the 'puredata' package that's included in Debian,
but it's the "proper" way to do it.

i think there are 2 options to do it: either conflict with "puredata" or use another path.
i am all for the latter and propose again to use /usr/lib/pd-extended/ (the same for binaries and everything)
i only know of 2 .deb packages that install into /usr/local:
pd-extended and csound5
while this might seem like good company, it is not: csound5 seems to
delete half your system when you uninstall it; hopefully pd-extended
is not that harsh

I think I made a mistake using /usr/local, so I am going to switch it
to /usr.
As for renaming the binaries and directories to "pd-extended", I
don't use the 'puredata' package, so if someone wants that, I will
happily defer the .deb package maintenance to the them. :D

Another path is the only solution, at least until pd-extended will try to comply with Debian/Ubuntu/...'s policies. As it is now, it will not only have to conflict with puredata, but also with the packages "gem", "pd-zexy", "pd-pdp", and maybe others, too. Again I suggest to split the deb for pd-extended into smaller packages, but of course which packages to split into would need to be discussed.

Hallo Hans + others!
I still have to same error with the ubuntu gutsy autobuild (see below) which is quite annoying when installing it on other systems ...
So I wanted to ask: where in the SVN repository are the files that build these gutsy packages ? Then I can fix the dependencies ...

The files are in packages/linux_make. The problem is that there is
just one package description file which needs to build the .debs for
all of the different Debian-based distributions.
In order to support multiple distros, we'll need a way to manage
multiple 'debian/control' files, one for each distro with conflicting
deps. One way would be to have 'packages/debian' and 'packages/
ubuntu', but I am open to suggestions.

If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of
exclusive property, it is the action of the thinking power called an
idea, which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps
it to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into
the possession of everyone, and the receiver cannot dispossess
himself of it. - Thomas Jefferson
