a bit confusing: in Windows [write file cr( - [textfile] does not give lines ending with CR but with LF
(in Pd-extended it gave CR LF)

That is confusing... in every OS (windows, Mac, linux/unix) th file written out has only unix-style line feeds to separate lines. I thought it was a better idea to maintain exactly the same file format than to vary it to be the most "native" possible one. Very old Windows programs sometimes got confused by linefeed-only files, but I haven't seen this happen for at least a decade or so.

notepad?
not exactly confused though (as in: the way it deals with LF is very consistent albeit very unconvenient)

One very good option to deal with .txt and also .pd files for Windows users is Notepad++ https://notepad-plus-plus.org/
